No, sorry, I have seen these alternative plays, and despite me being non religious, there is nothing quite as lovely as infant age kids doing the nativity and singing the carols.....:)
It's part of our tradition, and doesn't harm a soul.

my DDs primary school changed from nativity to pantomime - its hilariously funny and they still get to sing and dance etc0 -
The quote which didn't get copied by (tablet glitch!) was from Mojisa;
Our country has developed into a pretty decent place, in part this is due to our history & development being christian based. I agree the church has a lot to answer for & we have a long way to go in some areas in general as a nation but Christianity played some part in the way we evolved, the rights we enjoy & the freedoms we expect in our daily lives.
You can disagree but this is a personal view, I don't subscribe to religion, any of them & never did, even as a child at a CoE school but I am able to acknoledge that religion is part of our culture & history & have made my peace with it.I have not said we have rights & freedoms because of the Christian church.
Splitting hairs...ok, so you said "partly" because of the Christian church. So, what has the Christian Church contributed to "the rights we enjoy and the freedoms we expect in our daily lives"?0 -
Ok, you are free to believe that.Mojisola
Okay, I can waste a few minutes.
I read the first quote as saying that our current rights and freedoms are down to the effect of the Christian faith on society.
I think we've only got the rights and freedoms we have now because society is now longer under the influence of the church to anywhere near the degree it used to be.
I am free to believe that our culture & history including but not exclusively the Christian church has played a part in the development & rights of the people of this land. Education for all, the government we have chosen & the laws that they have passed have come from us. Add in morris dancers & the maypole too.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Is anyone else failing to see a simple resolution to this long winded whine about religion in schools?
Either choose a different school, one that fits in with your needs. Or withdraw the child from anything religious! Goodness me you certainly will give the staff something to laugh at over coffee break if you get so deep into everything!
As for sharing, which was the main point of this post. Get over it! Your child will have to lear. if there is, for example, one key board she may get 5 mins on it rAther than the half hour she would prefer!!! That's life, if you want her gently reminded to take turns, jeep her at home!!0 -

Please see my post above, we as a race, a people, have developed out of our history & our developement has resulted in a nation of tolerant & welcoming people who enjoy rights & laws fought for by the people & passed by goverment we chose and from learning from the past. The church shaped the views & morals of people at many times over history.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I have read your posts. Nowhere have you based your assertions on facts. Without facts, it's all just empty words. Do you have any examples of what you are saying? Or is all of it based on belief rather than empirical proof?0 -
:rotfl:
Those are as Christian as the midwinter festival and the Spring rebirth festival that the Catholic church took over.
I never said they were Christian, I added them as part of the example of what makes us a nation.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I do disagree. What rights and freedoms do we have because of the Christian church?
I think it probable that people took opposition to things like slavery on a religious basis.
I think a lot of aid is Supplied via religious fundraising/ charities.
I'm sure if one thought about it there are plenty of examples ( as there are pretty grotty behaviour by people purportedly in the name of religions and by atheists. And by dogs. )0
