what's the difference? I *think* (without looking it up) that it's described by the LA as a community school.balletshoes wrote: »is your school non-faith or non-denominational? I ask because I kind of assumed it was pretty much the same thing, but its not.0 -

Oh that's reminded me, when in yr7 DS was given a Bible from the Gideon Society. I attended the same Secondary over 30 years ago and remember getting one too. I'd forgotten until Janepig's post. Is this usually in non-faith Secondary schools in England?
So was I!! Funnily enough me and DH were just talking about that. He had one too in his first year in comp, he went to the Welsh medium comp next door to my English one. I'm not sure if they still do it.
When DD was in year 2 she came home from school with a massive children's picture bible (in Welsh) with a personalised inscription on the inside front cover which every child from year 2 to 6 had been given, it must have cost a bomb! We've still got it here somewhere but it's never been opened! I'm not sure if it was something only their school did or whether it was a government initiative or something.
To add insult to injury, we've been to DD's new school tonight for a new parents evening so that the new starters for September can be put in their registration groups, etc... and her new reg teacher is also the RE teacher! Luckily DH knows her because she used to teach him and she seems very nice. I'm sure all this is God's way of trying to tell me to find Jesus!! :rotfl:
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I don't know how I'd know. There's 1 Catholic school here, 1 CofE and the rest aren't.balletshoes wrote: »a non-denominational school is Christian, but not a particular type of Christianity (ie church of england, presbyterian etc)0 -

Similar here, there's a Catholic comp, a Catholic primary and a Church in Wales primary. The kids from the CiW primary have then got the choice to go to the Catholic comp if they want. Unlike alot of areas where the Catholic secondary schools are apparently very good, the one we have locally isn't that brilliant so I don't think they have much of an issue with over subscribing.
All the other schools are "Community Schools" like you said in your other post Spendless.

DD got one in her first year in her state Secondary school last year. And we're in Scotland, just to confuse the issue. In a school where the compulsory Standard Grade (our GCSE) RE was only phased out a year or two ago because of the new curriculum being introduced.
So Scottish schools aren't as completely free of the religious influence as the OP believes. Parental consultation? Not in the last 16 years my kids have been going to state schools up here.Val.0 -

It is clearly not being followed widely then. Our school has an assembly once a week with absolutely no religious aspect whatsoever.0
