I used to. Started selling by accident. Originally gave away, then did a commission for someone who saw one.

Haven't for years am a grown up HSE person now.
  • Love the poems! I had one published that I wrote when I was 13 but it could identify me as it is also tagged onto the paper my therapist wrote about me so I won't write it here. Plus it is a gigantic CBP! But if anyone would like to hear it send me a pm and I will happily show it to you, I trust everyone here.

  • I've been thinking about what help I need. As part of ex giving me my son back I agreed once my job has finished in a few months to go the docs to get help. I know now that, that help needs to be more than just pills. I have been offered counselling before I would be interested to hear others experiences of this but I don't want it. I don't want to sit and talk about the past it is the past talking about it is not going to change it, I am not an open discussing feelings person and if I feel it's not going to work then I very much doubt it will. I have heard of CBT and think that is more what I need but is it freely available on the NHS how would I go about getting it? Has anyone had both and what you say helped you more.

Nobody has to reply I will totally understand if nobody does only post if you feel able to.
  • Love reading the poems you are all so talented it must be such a high to get something published if it was me I would buy 10 copies of the book just in case I lost some!

    I can't write or paint/draw always wished I could.

CBT is more available on the NHS and I have heard good things about it worth asking I think.
  • First of all well done for recognising that you need help, ima. That is a huge step.

I have had both and you are correct that they work in different ways. The talking therapies tend to help you understand what you have been through and how it affected you. They can be useful to deal with emotions that you may have suppressed and triggers that are still hurting you today, by talking through it you begin to understand why you respond the way you do.

CBT deals more with the here and now. There is a tiny bit of looking at what triggers you but it isn't as deep as psychotherapy. It is more about learning techniques to help through your day to day life as it is in the present. This involves identifying triggers, recording how you feel to look for patterns and eventually changes, and looking at alternative ways to deal with situations.

I found both very useful and for me one wasn't better than the other. If you contact your GP he can refer you for CBT on the NHS. The only problem is there tends to be a waiting list but when they finally see you it is free and in my opinion worth it.
