I wonder why? You don't assume your plumber or plasterer are going to steal things**, why carers?
**Or at least I don't. Maybe everyone else does?
Well, there must be some paranoia out there.
Mr JM used to run a domestic appliance repair business. (He could fix ANYTHING, in the days when he was well, and was Hotpoint trained as well as being a qualified electrical engineer.) He had the contract for the whole of his part of the world to go and fix things for the local blind community. What a horrid thought, having to let someone into your house if you are blind! I would find that INCREDIBLY stressful! Anyway, the word went round that Mr JM could be trusted, and he made loads of lifelong friends in the blind community as he went to service all their washing machines, etc.
Ooops just read on, and found/remembered that Millefleur is blind (technically) as well. Yes, totally understandable.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Your situation with BIL and millefluer reminds me of my great aunt. there have been various nefarious characters who take money off her despite us trying to limit what they do, she drinks a lot of alcohol and from what we can gather they tend to get her drunk then get money off her :mad:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Good morning all! I need to write Christmas cards today.
I also have a load of Xmas presents to wrap (think big and cheap for the children on behalf great aunt - littlewing is still at the stage where big and brightly wrapped means the most excitement, and we are trying to guide family away from swamping her with chocolates and sweets).
WaS, I know this is all hugely stressful for you and WaSp. Try to remember that most of the stress and anxiety on your thread (for all of us; not your situation alone) is from what may or what may not happen. The actual outcome of decisions has always had as many, if not more, plus points as it has negative ones.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Do you think it might be time for WaSp to look into getting a Power of Attorney so that he can take care of MIL's finances and stop BIL getting his hands on her money?0

I had forgotten Millifleur was blind, yes that does make her fears more understandable.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

The other thing is that if millefleur knows in her heart that BIL is accessing her money unnecessarily, then from her point of view, if family can do that, isn't it even more likely that a stranger could?
WaS, you can probably reassure her better than anyone.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Good morning all, thank you for the kind and helpful replies. You are all holding me together through this. It is a trigger for me because of what my own mother did after social services became involved and she was moved, I really must not catastrophise this. I will have a chat with my social worker tomorrow, even if she won't discuss anything directly with me at least she will see my viewpoint.
WaSp is going to see MIL tomorrow after my social worker has been. MIllifleur wants him to go today but BIL, her sister and cousin are there and he cannot bear to sit in a group of people who will be telling her how awful Social Services is and how this is very bad for her.
Tomorrow I will attempt another phone call to her. She seems to be saying what she believes everyone wants to hear and agreeing with every opposing viewpoint. My heart goes out to her, she is trying to keep everyone happy. So far with me she has been honest about her feelings so even though I am really hating these phone calls I need to keep doing them. She won't say a word to her sons, she told them she pressed her panic button when she felt dizzy and then collapsed and wasn't aware that she was bleeding, for example. In reality she went to the bathroom, fainted at the sight of blood (with limited vision all she saw was a blurred pool of red, it wasn't that bad) and then woke up and tried to clean herself and sat up alone for another 3 hours before using her button with a bleeding head hoping everything would get better because was scared of going to hospital! She didn't want to tell WaSp because he would worry and BIL because he would shout at her. With me she says sheltered housing isn't too bad but she is worried about BIL coping alone, with BIL and WaSp (who she knows will discuss it) she says she is totally against it! They are getting very different stories to what I hear and I am being sworn to secrecy!
I really need to think about my own social worker appointment tomorrow, too...Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
