    Hi all

I havent posted on this thread before, but read when I can. I just have to post to say

WaS you have nothing to be ashamed off, you have an illness. Would you feel ashamed if you had developed a physical disability which meant you couldn't have kids or leave the house?

Did you say somewhere you had a degree? or studied in further education? If thats not something for a head teacher to be proud of in a former pupil I don't know what is, it is an especially good achievement for you as you did that despite having other difficulties and a traumatic past. Lots of people with 'normal' pasts and lives never hope to achieve further education.

The 'normal' 'perfect' family life of 2,4 children, dog etc does not exist for most people. The only difference is some people are able to pretend it does, just because they are living it does not mean they are happy a lot of them are living a lie. Would you rather be open and honest like you are or stuck in a situation where you feel you have to lie about it - I know which I would rather be.

By that definition you are very successful indeed.

The letter in full sent to pupils with their exam results

Please find enclosed your end of KS2 test results. We are very proud of you as you demonstrated huge amounts of commitment and tried your very best during this tricky week.

However, we are concerned that these tests do not always assess all of what it is that make each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you- the way your teachers do, the way I hope to, and certainly not the way your families do.

They do not know that many of you speak two languages. They do not know that you can play a musical instrument or that you can dance or paint a picture. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them or that your laughter can brighten the dreariest day.

They do not know that you write poetry or songs, play or participate in sports, wonder about the future, or that sometimes you take care of your little brother or sister after school.

They do not know that you have travelled to a really neat place or that you know how to tell a great story or that you really love spending time with special family members and friends.

They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to be your very best... the scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.

So enjoy your results and be very proud of these but remember there are many ways of being smart.

What lovely inspirational posts Ww, Haybel and JM :) Remember WaS - be kind to yourself - perhaps it's time to do that exercise again, coming up with three reasons you are worthwhile?
  • Hello, iammumtoone! You are right, I would much prefer to be open and honest than live a lie. I do have a degree which I admit to being very proud of under the circumstances, I really hope my teacher see's it that way, too. I do think he will as he is a lovely person.

Aw, haybel, I love that quote! I would much prefer to have made a positive difference to peoples lives than gain anything materialistically. All I have ever wanted to do is help people from being a child which became an even more of a wish after so many people helped me.

Errr, ok oldestgnome! I can try this!

    1. I am kind
    2. I am compassionate
    3. I am loyal

Now I am blushing because I said nice things about myself!

    4. You are inspirational
    5. You are open and honest
    6. You have taught a lot of people a lot about mental health.

(Others, please keep adding and we will make a long list, and then get WaS to print it out!)

Soooooo pleased about your teacher. I'm sure he will be delighted to hear you have turned out to be such a lovely person - although sad that you have health difficulties.

And I'm delighted you were able to see the Youtube clip. I was worried about posting it in case it upset you, but she is just SO inspirational that I was fairly confident it would be uplifting for you, as it is for me. xxx

    10) You have a great sense of humour
    11 You are positive
    12) You are inclusive and welcoming.

I watched the clip on youtube - what an amazing lady, it has made me ask myself what defines me? It's a really difficult question to answer I'm going to give it some serious thought, thank you for the link JM.
