    Your tattoos sound beautiful, haybel!

I used to work for the Samaritans but I found it a little frustrating because there is actually very little you can do. Don't get me wrong, it is wonderful to be an ear for someone in desperate need but there is rarely a follow up so you never know the outcome and if you are me you want to make suggestions, especially as I was trained as a therapist at the time. You cannot 'give therapy', you are there to listen, support and reflect back at times of crisis and that is all and I would be biting my tongue wanting to offer more. It is a wonderful service for those who benefit from it, it depends what your needs are.

I have also called them on occasion myself but sadly it was little help to me as they weren't qualified to deal with how complex my conditions are. It was wonderful to be listened to but at the same time it would sometimes make me feel worse because you could hear in their voices that they were at a total loss and horrified on my behalf. One woman started crying for me, not quite what I had had planned, I ended up reassuring her! Ironically despite my misgivings about religion the most helpful person I spoke to at the Samaritans was a priest. He was extremely understanding and supportive and didn't bat an eyelid no matter what I said, I have never forgotten how supportive he was.

For me, Saneline works much better. They are used to dealing with specific mental illnesses and offer an identical service but also understand various types of mental illness so there is less explaining.

In other news the pharmacy doesn't have one of my medications. Of course it is the one that has addictive properties. WaSp is now having to drive around to others to try to find it or I will go into withdrawal. Not the best start to the day.

The supermarket pharmacies are usually pretty good (in our area at least).

  • Oooh,ok! I'll tell him to try Asda. The problem is that my prescription is for a soluble version, they have tablets coming out of their ears but few people take the same as me so they stock very little. Another poor woman was in a huge state in there because she couldn't get to another pharmacy (mobility issues and no one to go for her) and was told that she would have to wait two days. These only have a life of 8-12 hours so she would definitely be in withdrawal by then. I am sure that there is a reason why pharmacies don't do it but you would think that if they are distributing a medication that is known to cause withdrawal that they would make sure that they have enough.

WaSp managed to find my medication at Asda, thank you, whitewing for the suggestion!

I had forgotten that I have an appointment with the eye doctor on Monday. It is the lesser of my appointments but I hate the yellow goop they put in my eyes. I have dry eye syndrome anyway and this makes them feel like they have sand in them. This is the first of 5 appointments this month, I think I need to stagger the next ones a bit more.

It should prompt memories of your glorious night out at the beach. Did we ever hear full details of that?

  • Hahahahaha! that is very true! I think I went on about it further back somewhere!

I really want to try the surprise visit for MIL's birthday next week, too if I can. Having said that her stomach is so bad at the moment that I don't think that she will be having a very happy day. There is little that can be done other than medication to try and control the symptoms, it is just because of her age-bits don't work as well as they used to. We do worry, though because she has lost a lot of weight recently. She does like liquid meal supplements so we have bought her lots of those in different flavours as part of her gift. The other part is a warm and fluffy dressing gown because she gets so cold now.

I phoned the Samaritans once - without going into details it was a family situation which I needed to get my head round before I decided what I should/could do about it. It was useful in that it let me talk round things with someone who was trying their hardest to be non-judgemental, but due to the nature of the problem I could tell she was struggling with what she felt I should do so in the end I ended the conversation because we were going round in circles a bit. I wouldn't rule out phoning them again though should I ever feel the need. Sometimes you really do just want someone to listen. (I have a family that is very good on the "what you do is..." front.)

When mutt had something similar done, she had fluorescent green drops that ended up coming out of her nose. She did look very pretty though. Am now picturing WaS with a glow in the dark hooter.:D

Perhaps seeing you will be the boost that MiL needs to cheer her up a bit?

  • WaS - that does sound like a brilliant present and I'm sure MIL will be delighted to see you xxx

Elsien - I agree - sometimes it's just what you need, to be heard for a little while xx

Gitdog is currently engaging in his nightly battle for my blanket. I would like to add that he does have his own, but it's on his bed and does not have a lap associated with it and is therefore entirely unsuitable in his eyes.
I've just ordered him a new purple extra strong harness - they threw me by asking what colour, so it was a spur of the moment decision. It is expensive but given his tendency to throw his weight around I'm working on the basis it's worth spending more for one that lasts. And he'll look pretty. :)
