It is a shame about Lynda Bellingham. I grew up seeing her on tv as the oxo mum. I read that she was hoping to spend a final christmas with her family but she didn't make it. Not your fault WaS.
Oldestgnome , I read the thread you mentioned and it made me cry a bit too. Sparked a conversation with DH about adoption further down the line.
Don't think dumbass dog was feeling very well today. He was a bit sleepy and less waggy than normal. Hated leaving him to go to work this morning but hopefully when I get home he'll have rallied.
Glad secret rooster is keeping the noise down. I think I'd quite like a quietish rooster nearby. It's such a wholesome country sound.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Would it help to have him caponned?
Had to look that up, didn't know they could do that. It says op needs to be done before they mature so suspect it is too late now as he seems to be mid puberty already. His tail seems to have grown tremedously in the week and a bit since we realised he was male, he is a rare 'naked neck' breed so has a very different feathering pattern to the regular girls !
One of my sons used to work at a rare breed 'show farm' , they always like to have plenty of chicks around for the children to see so were quite happy to send older chickens off to good homes. We let family take turns to name the new girls , it was eldest son's turn to name a new bird so of course farmer son thought it would be funny to bring home a really strange looking bird for him to 'adopt' , this batch of chicks was a little bit younger and not obvious which were male/female but farmer son was changing jobs he picked out the smallest chick and hoped it was a girl ....... Secret Rooster was four inches high and so, so cute when 'she' arrived with two slightly larger lady friends. Farmer son has known all our chickens since they were eggs which is rather lovely....he's now working on a dairy farm in Devon and it wasn't until he popped home for the weekend and had a good look that we realised we had a secret rooster , suddenly all the clues fell into place and we realised why 'he' was now bigger than all the others and 'talking' differently!!

Good Morning!
I love Secret Rooster! He is so handsome! I want to cuddle him! (I also now want a baby oystercatcher, that's adorable). I love cuddling chickens and roosters, I met some very tame ones who were happy to sit on my lap as long as there was a continuous food supply. Give full-of beans dog a cuddle from me too!
Really sorry to hear about poor dumbass dog, it sounds like a day for poorly animals! Give him a big cuddle from me, too please!
I am...okish. Poor Linda Bellingham. I was imagining her spending one last Christmas with her family, perhaps I shouldn't have imagined that. I wish that I could have helped her. I am glad that she had her husbands arms for comfort at the end.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Its sad not to have one last Christmas, but otoh, it also means suffering is over and her family move into the next stage of their grieving now. Christmas is not permanantly assosiated with her loss ( I have an acquaintance whose husband died on Christmas Day...Christmas remains hard for her and those around her always).0

That is very true, LIR. Perhaps it was better this way, I would have imagined that she would have been far more unwell by Christmas whereas she was still able to make a public appearance last week. It is just so terribly sad and makes me think of everyone else with terminal illness right now. My heart goes out to everyone in that position and their friends and families.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I hope I get the chance to watch the Loose Women show at some point (repeat in the evening, please TV company).
I am struggling a bit today (but not too bad). Is it my imagination, or are people feeling the pinch a bit more than this time last year? I seem to be losing custom but can't yet tell if it's me or the nation as a whole.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I think that they are, whitewing. Prices in supermarkets have shot up and we have noticed a lot of the value ranges have been discontinued which is over half of our weekly buys. We find we have no choice but to cut out all treats just to buy what we could a year ago. WaSp's friend who runs his business has noticed a drop in sales, too.

Petrol is dropping, so hopefully that will translate to easier budgets for many. Unless it translates to train prices or electricity or food its not going to help fir and I all that much. We do use petrol for the power tools and the cat and lawn mower etc, but not dramatically DIRECTLY, compared with other household expenses.0
