How cute, whitewing! I love hearing about your DD.

I'm not too bad, thank you for asking Pyxis. WaSp stayed tonight because he has a thumping headache through tiredness (MIL didn't sleep at all last night) and driving really wouldn't be a good idea. He is sleeping and will hopefully feel better tomorrow and even though he is in the other room I appreciate the company.

I thought it was a good article, JM! I have always thought Schizophrenia is more than one problem, I still question why I developed immune disorders one after the other so quickly after developing it. Plus I loved that they pointed out that so many don;t find permanent relief from symptoms and it is an ongoing condition. The other important point is how it makes people fearful of those with it, that totally breaks my heart. I do hope by posting here that I have made it clear that there is very little to fear, I wouldn't hurt a fly and am only a danger to myself. Even when psychotic I am completely harmless as are many Schizophrenics. In fact I am probably more passive than an average person due to the shed loads of guilt I carry.

*ahem* I know I had said I'd gone off fish but I may have taken a small rod to a small pond

Oh WaaS you seem to be one of the kindest, gentilistt person I know, I can't imagine you harming a flu! It angers me that people have such misconceptions and assume mentally ill=dangerous when most of the time , I think we are more a danger to ourselves than anyone else. Hope you're holding up okay

My husband has been quite depressed recently, taking the form of feeling nothing is worthwhile. He is also quite angry and this is to do with, I think, him watching the news again and now he is angry with Scots and Muslims, David Cameron, Ed Miliband, footballers.....and with me too sometimes, because he knows I am safe to be angry with, although he ALWAYS apologises afterwards, and then feels even worse because he has been angry with me....

I keep telling him that he can do nothing about any of these things (other than vote at the ballot box) but atm this just makes him more angry.

For his sake I would rather he was angry than despairing, it seems more positive. For my sake I'd rather he was despairing because it is quieter. :( But that's very selfish I know, just being honest with you guys here because I know I can. I'd much rather he was just happy.

Wish I could wave a wand and make him well.

(I feel disloyal even writing about him. Please don't think I would talk to everyone about him, there is no way I would, but this thread is so supportive).

    Thanks for listening.

Hello 7DW. So sorry to hear about your husband.
Is there a particular reason for his depression at the moment? Or has it come right out of the blue?

MU, I am glad that you haven't gone off fishing!

7DW, hope your husband gets some peace in his heart soon. Is he on medication? Everyone is always so anti-medication but it sets me to 'normal' mode rather than zombifies me.

I was really angry when I had postnatal depression. Angry and irritable and hooked on the news so I could make myself worse, although I kidded myself that it was to prepare me for dealing with a hostile world. Because of the anger, I did not associate it with depression.

The other thing I would say is that is was the start of getting better for me.

    Have a lovely day, everyone.

  • 7DW, has your DH had CBT?

I'm reconsidering my view on CBT - I used to see it as a bit of a sausage factory which was useful for some people. But recently a few people have told me how useful they found it, and in particular one friend said that it's one of the most useful tools in his armoury. I think it's especially useful if people feel angry a lot of the time (I suffer from this, and am thinking of puttling myself through a course.)

Meanwhile, here is another excellent article on mental illness. This might contain penguins, as it has descriptions of how distressing MI is, but in summary it's a view of MI from a shamanistic culture, where people with MI are treated as emerging healers. http://earthweareone.com/what-a-shaman-sees-in-a-mental-hospital/

    JM,

I haven't read the whole article (I am at work), but the bit I have read is fascinating. Whether I choose to believe the shaman's viewpoint or not, it does make me feel a whole lot better about my mental health conditions.

I went to the doctor's surgery today to try to book some follow up appointments. The place was plastered with posters and bunting about flu vaccines, including a poster that said something like if you suffer from long term conditions affecting any of these, ask about an appointment for a vaccine. One of the bullet points on the list was 'brain or nervous system'. I have mh issues, for which I am currently seeing the GP regularly. So I decided that may come under 'brain or nervous system'. But it didn't come up for me on the computer. Question is, shall I ask the GP or not about it?

It's always worth asking, Whitewing, because there may be other factors we don't think about. So yes, do ask. It can't hurt to!

HHi all, thanks for your kind words.

It just comes out of the blue really, no particular trigger other than world events. I'm going to suggest he does not watch the news today.

He is not on medication at the moment, has managed to stay off it for at least five years. His terribly black moods normally pass and then we can manage the depression/anxiety.

He has not had CBT, but many yearr ago he had a type of gestalt therapy which he found really useful.

Thanks all again for your kind words. It is good for me to have speople to talk to who do not know us personally :):)
