Aw, not fair dibuzz! I really hope that you can rest later.
WaS is making cupcakes alone, get the fire brigade on standby!
WaSp copied the instructions down for me and added useful things like use an oven glove when emptying the oven! He thinks that we are going to make them together when he arrives later but I am trying to do them now as a surprise for him! (he hates baking). What should have taken 15 minutes has taken an hour but nevermind that, it looks like cake mix and the house hasn't burnt down so it's going well!.

I burnt my toast yesterday, as I got distracted on MSE and forgot all about it. Luckily, it was fairly thick slices so I was able to scrape off the burnt bits.
I shall pop on later to see how they've turned out. Are they in the oven yet? And how long do they need to be in for?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Good morning, whitewing! The cupcakes are out of the oven and seem to be cooked! I also remembered to use an oven glove and turn the oven off! All that is left now is icing them, at least I can't hurt myself doing that. I think it might have just have worked. This is the first time that I have baked anything alone for over 8 years.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I wish I was coming over for elevenses. Do they smell good?
Very well done!
Can you post a pic when they are iced?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Oooh, good idea on the pic! WaSp will tell me off for baking alone but I think that he will be pleased, too. I am a little bit proud of myself, I managed to do something using an oven and don't appear to have forgotten anything or hurt myself. That's great, I'm an expert at burning things ( including jelly)

I'm am glad his detailed instructions worked well. That may be a beneficial strategy for other people too.
I once made a mother's day sponge for my mother. As a child, if I didn't understand why I had to do something, I very often didn't do it. (Actually I am still like that as an adult). I didn't understand why you had to wait for the cake to cool to sandwich it together with jam. So I didn't wait. The cake looked lovely, but when we went to cut it, the knife wouldn't go through the jammed layer. We had to cut the jam out of the middle and just eat the sponge.
BTW, they are a bit pricey but Dr Oetker's wafer daisies look stunning on cakes

They also do an edible cupcake case, but I haven't tried that as I have only seen it on the website this morning.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Hahahahaha! I am usually just as bad, dibuzz. I am amazed that I didn't forget these for an hour although I did set a kitchen timer and an alarm clock and placed one either side of me. They are cooling now and then I will ice them. Surely even I can't mess up making icing? (Famous last words).
Oh, and if I don't mention iced cupcakes within the next 2 hours someone please remind me as I may have forgotten that I made them all together by then.
Hahahahaha that's adorable, whitewing! Those daisies are beautiful!
WaSp's list was very detailed indeed which it needs to be for me. It even had very basic things like open the cupboard over the sink to get flour in case I forgot where it was. There were a few minutes of confusion where I stood looking at egg, milk and flour on top of each other in a bowl and thought somehow it needs to turn into cake mix but luckily WaSp had thought to put get a fork and mix together. It is the tiny things like that, that I forget. The measuring went fine but I completely forgot that I was supposed to mix it together, I just knew that it didn't look right. I really do need things laid out for me in the smallest of details because I forget how to do the most obvious of things. I have messed up icing by adding too much water and then not having any more icing sugar to thicken it.
When I was young my nan used to make batches of different coloured icing sugar, but it on rich tea biscuits and all the neighbourhood children would have one as a treat. So simple and we thought it was so marvellous. Like most things, it is not so much what you do, as the joy in which you present it to the world that makes the memories.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. And if you do something wrong in the future, it'll be his instructions that are to blame!
I hope you keep your recipes in a new cookery binder. Maybe one day you could put them online, or even better, gather them into a recipe booklet that you could sell to benefit other people with memory problems and give a proportion of the proceeds to charity.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
