Better late than never but these are really comfy (my slipper shoes), I have them without the bow thing & in red. Mine were just under £18, but I shall get some more in the sale. You can throw them in the washing machine too :D

These are really comfy too. I won a pair & never expected to wear them because of that thing between my toe, but I ended up buying a 2nd & 3rd pair. I'm sure my last pair were only £7.50 delivered from Amazon http://www.surfdome.com/rocket_dog_flip_flops_-_rocket_dog_sunset_flip_flops_-_black-43252

This is true, JM! It's sentences like "This had a strange effect" or "This was effective/affective" that get me! I asked my teacher friend to explain it (he was an English teacher before a headteacher) and I am still confused!

I hope you don't mind, but I've been thinking of other mnemonic ways of remembering the difference. I really enjoy doing things like this, but if you find it boring, read no further!

So, instead of AGA and BEBE, try these:

    Affective
    Affect
These are from the same root as affectionate, ie pertaining to mood, emotion.
Think of SAD - seasonal affective disorder - mood & emotion.

    Effective
    Effect
These are from the same root as efficient, ie pertaining to producing the desired result.
Think of 'Lily the Pink' - 'efficacious in every way!'

    So we have.....a...affect.........SAD..............(feeling)

    And................e...effect........'Lily the Pink'..(doing)

If that doesn't work, then there's this. I don't know if you've ever done any Latin, or are interested in the etymology of words, which I just love, (as if you hadn't guessed!), but I often find that knowing the roots of the words can help in remembering the spelling.

Affect comes from the Latin affectus which derives from.....ad facere
Where ad means to, and facere means to do.
Ie. what something does to you and how it makes you feel.

Effect comes from the Latin effectus which derives from....ex facere
Where ex means out and facere means to make.
Ie. to get a desired result out of something.

You can wake up now! :D

I just thought about the joy of sheepskin insoles too. Although they make tight shoes tighter, for those of us with feet that leave us with shoes that can be too big they can fill a void, and they are warm and soft under foot.

Sore feet are just horrid. Fir bought me some really big thick socks for Christmas a few years ago, and a couple of years since so great was my joy. The delight of something SO padded and soft was incredible. Before that I would never have worn such things, but they are great.

Similarly when I was first unwell a bizarre symptom was I put weight on very very quickly and I felt increasingly uncomfortable in clothes, they were almost always the wrongfit pretty soon after buying them and felt rigid. My sports wear was of the lean Lycra type and one day fir came home with a soft pink fleece track suit/ lounge wear thing from Gap. He very gently helped me into the trousers, and as the soft wide elastic waistband slid on, I felt a sort of joy of....wow, this is AMAZING.

I have never felt that ever since about anything I've worn. I think it was partly the tenderness of someone else thinking of my comfort, and partly, the clothes and letting it not matter what I looked like so much. Fir called it my pink suit ( it was pink, I would never have chosen pink) and it stretched with me till it was a dirty white colour and full of holes and stains. I wish I still had a pink suit tbh!

I got TWO pairs of fitflops from Surfdome last week - both FAR cheaper than I'd seen them anywhere else! Those Pavers look great, though! I see one new pair on Ebay (you do have to pay for postage tho and sadly not your size IIRC from previous posts)

Just made it out of bed. Why has my fairy door moved to beneath the electricity cupboard and why are there 'fairy wings' (pieces of paper cut to wing shapes) stuck in the door? WaSp says he kept hearing a sizzling noise and can't imagine what it is...I am sure he gets bored while I sleep.

Replies after coffee and saving my poor fairies!

P.S I whined a lot about fairy murder so WaSp has conceded that the wings are only made of paper and are placed there as decoys so that the fairies can escape. I should think so, too...

Hello SDA! I am glad that my experience helped with understanding, although sorry to hear that your friend goes through that.

Depression alone can make things very confused when trying simple tasks, pop psychosis on top of that combined with medication and it gets vary hard to complete simple tasks. The best way I can describe the memory lapses is they feel like an empty space in your mind. I can be halfway through a task and then will do something ridiculous and/or out of sequence and pause. I know something is wrong but when I search for what it might be there is just nothing there. The more I try to think the more foggy my head becomes, I feel a pressure behind my eyes and a vague headache and my thoughts slip out of focus. Then when someone reminds me or it eventually appears in my mind it is like forgetting what your nose is called. It feels so obvious that I have no idea how I ever forgot it. This can happen within seconds or within days and it occurs at any time at all, even if it involves things I have done 100 times before. Directly afterwards I feel a huge frustration with myself, I hate that I can't do things that others don't think twice about.

Your suggestion isn't intrusive, it is exactly what I need to do! I was thinking about it last night and while making tea I had the voices babbling away, WaSp speaking, the sound of traffic outside and my own thoughts making tea. All of these were taking equal place in my thoughts. Add to that the fact that I 'daydream' very easily, my grip on this world isn't solid at the best of times and it starts to make more sense why I forget things. Somehow I need to focus my mind as you suggested and limit all other input at the time.

Hang in there dibuzz, I wish we could swap for a week and you could have my 10 hour sleeps.

Thank you for the shoe tips! I am aiming to buy something next week, this will be the fourth pair of shoes I have bought this year, the previous 3 were unwearable so fingers crossed.

I love mnemonic's, Pyxis! They are a huge help in helping me remember things, thank you!

Have a good rest, LIR! I have been in and out of bed 3 times so far today but am attempting to stay awake now!

I am anxious and insecure today but it is for such a ridiculous reason that I can't even bring myself to share it. Sometimes I find having Borderline Personality Disorder more difficult than all of my other problems. I do have the ability to rationalise it these days which helps but it doesn't stop me feeling the negative emotions or stop me feeling frustrated with myself.
