  • I completely sympathise with the swollen feet problem. For many people, I would recommend cosyfeet, especially if you can get to their Street in Somerset hq where they can measure your feet and recommend a style. They do some with uppers made from the stuff they make wet suits out of, so it looks a bit like leather but stretches in all directions, ideal if you have oddly shaped feet.
I buy the ones I want for a family member off ebay now I know exactly what she wants!

The same lady at home wears Flyfot sandals, which are soft, variable by use of the velcro straps and have a small heel. Like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLYFLOT-BEIGE-SUEDE-SANDALS-TWO-VELCRO-STRAPS-1-75-HEEL-39-6-/361020114430?pt=UK_Women_s_Shoes&hash=item540e79c5fe

But for you WaS (& your cousin, the princess with the pea under the bed) I guess slipper socks may be the best option, just make sure your visits are on a dry day! This style may be the nearest to comfortable for you http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cosyfeet-Wrap-Over-Navy-Shoes-for-Swollen-Feet-Size-4-EEEEE-/201144511424?pt=UK_Women_s_Shoes&hash=item2ed525abc0

You need to buy a pair of gold high heels, (that you can only get on first thing in the morning for a couple of minutes & without standing up), just so you can look at your feet and think yay! high heels!!
Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.

if WaS did get those beautifully soft jazz shoes, would you think normal size, or normal and a half, or 1 size bigger?

    Well. That's a question. :D

This is what they say about shoes.
    . SHOES

To avoid confusion, please order your dance shoes in your UK street shoe size. Most products come in US sizes and we will convert to the best known equivalent. Don't panic when you receive your shoes as they will be marked with the US size on the packaging however you can check we have sent you the correct UK on your invoice.
Most styles are fairly snug and we recommend you order half a size or a full size up if you prefer to wear your shoes with additional growing space. SBS are particularly small.

    Now, jazz shoes do stretch.

One of the difficulties is that my guess is WaS may not have a true idea of her size! because of the swelling and that she's not really going to get the opportunity to test shoes after a lot of walking. The little walking in the hospital, especially as she will be very stressed, probably elevates her heart rate a lot and might make everything more swollen than normal, does than sound famialar WaS, also extra stress on body.

I think if WaS is confident of her true size, and as its unlikely her feet are still growing. :D. I'd go the half size up for comfort. If they are wildly too large she is protected by distance selling regulations and can return them for something smaller.

As I said, they will stretch, but I think swelling is likely to be a bigger issue than things being too big.

They also can come in lovely bright colours, So if you don't mind going out in dance shoes WaS you could get some in an exciting colour......probably even turquoise if we looked hard enough, Certainly blue.

From experience, the dye runs. :D

    Edit:

    Ok, found blue ones. http://www.danceenterprise.co.uk/index.php/jazz_shoes_glitter_jazz_shoes/coloured_jazz_shoes_blue_jazz-_red_jazz_shoes-_tan_jazz_shoes_pearlised_pink_jazz_shoes_pearlised_blue_jazz_shoes/?k=:3:44323:

There are marketed as kids ( up to five and a half, but I think WaS is not short so might not have 5.5 feet?) coloured shoes with glitter in cluding turquoise but I wouldn't recommend them because the are synthetic, I have never worn synthetic jazz shoes, so I CANNOT recommend them. I mean, its been long enough since I wore ANY dance shoes!

My feet do swell far quicker at the hospital than say going to the doctors, LIR! Then again my hospital blood pressure results are usually through the roof but fine at my doctors so yes, panic is a factor. and no doubt part of the swelling.

I have size 7 feet, much to my horror because I think they're too long but I am 5'7 so hopefully they are in proportion. I don't mind bright shoes! I am going to try to get hold of a pair of jazz ones and also a pair of mules before my appointment in 2 weeks time. I hunted out a pair of slipper socks, too. So I should go for size 7 1/2? The only pair I have vaguely wearable are some trainer type shoes with velcro straps right now which still manage to pinch my toes and make them bleed after 20 minutes. My lovely leather boots are no longer wearable which just isn't fair, the same for gold flip flops with flowers which I was sure would be fine but the pole causes bleeding between my toes. For someone who never goes out I seem to spend a lot on unwearable shoes...

Are you a seven or are you a seven before your feet swell?

I have shoes in sizes from 5.5 to seven. I used to have shoes in a five, but I have given them away. I WAS a five and a half, and sometimes still am. I could sometimes get into a five, as I had narrow feet so, if my size was out in a sale but gives were left I'd get them :o

Now I will never see a five again, rarely see five and a half and feel six is a good day, so weird.

Six and a half is default. But shoes that fit in the morning, other than something like trainers or ugly uggs ( which cause lots of other problems) might be unwearable in the afternoon. :(

I have a magic pair of shoes which when they fit make me feel great. They aren't serious heels, a little md heel, which takes pressure off bad leg and lower back, and it feel happy I can wear nice shoes for a day.

I cannot walk up or down gradients at all in heels now though :rotfl:. When I think of dancing all night in serious heels:rotfl:

Nettle leaf (can be bought as tea) is supposed to help reduce swelling (and help with arthritis symptoms) but you should speak to your GP before trying it to ensure it doesn't affect your medications
