Is that an albino chick, or just a white chick? Does it happen often?

It's a little more yellow than it looks there actually. Its not albino at all. :)

I should have different groups of housing where one group of chicks is all yellow, the other all stripey, apart from sometimes, you get them where the boys look different from the girls!)

Its dad is almost entirely a white silkie ( this is a sort of mongrel group of hens who I have lost control of,) I was not expecting any chicks this year, and have had three /four clutches from them, this is this hens second clutch then a pair of hens who are a sort of single sex come raised a big clutch together, hard to define if it was one or two clutches, I think they considered it one.

This little hen is an exceptional mother, and a hilarious little bird, but I wish she'd stop doing it.

We had lots more, I used to keep rare breeds and breed funky hybrids for fun. and with me having had such a bad year and trying to cut down on animals so DH was left with less to deal with I didn't breed anything purposely, but they hide and breed.

These ones lay tiny little eggs.....not as small as quails eggs, but much smaller than a normal egg, and are not good as table birds. :o. And as 'mongrels' I cannot sell them! So they'll just skip about here. The good thing is they tend to lay the little eggs through most of the year, so we have tiny eggs into winter.
  • I see chicks! So adorable! I have a soft spot for chickens. WaSp and I used to stay in a rented cottage for our holidays and they had chickens, the tamest chickens that you have ever seen. It was impossible to eat in the garden because they would jump up on your lap and steal your food. I could easily pick them up and they would happily sit on me, I completely fell in love with them.

The funniest incident was during a storm when I left the door open to watch the rain. Three chickens came tearing up the garden and sheltered in the cottage until it stopped, they had a good look around too and got lots of cuddles. As I said, I have a soft spot for chickens.

Good morning everyone! How are we all today?

You may all laugh but I emailed my doctor because the pain had stopped. Yes, really. I couldn't work out how I could go from stabbing pains at the front of my chest and back which had me curling up for days to nothing hours later and it is the second time this happened. My doctor immediately said gallstone! Despite me protesting he said we have already tested for liver and kidney problems which came back clear so we are left with muscular or gallstones. The sudden stopping suggests the latter as the gallstone falls backwards to where it used to be.

So the new plan is if this happens again is send me for an ultrasound to see if there are stones and go from there. He would like to put off gallbladder surgery as I am on so much medication and have so many medical issues and if the stone doesn't annoy me it may not need to be done anyway. So next time I scream liver failure! please scream gallbladder! back at me.

PS. Thank you Emma! WaSp is getting me a frame tomorrow for your wonderful picture

PPS. The Cupboard of Doom is down to half a shelf! I have room!

Someone I know just had a gallstones operation. She has recovered well and is back to virtually normal.

  • Hello whitewing! Apparently the surgery is very safe and very quick, you are in and out within a day so it wouldn't be that much of a problem if it was needed really. It is just a question of watching the use of anaesthetic closely due to illnesses and medication. Out of all things it could have been gallstones is probably the most minor so I got off lightly if it is.

I do feel better now we are almost sure that we understand what is going on, I won't worry so much now it isn't just a random stabbing pain.

I meant 'virtually back to normal', lol, she doesn't frequent this thread! (This is a joke so please don't anyone be offended).

I am glad you feel better. What a great doctor you have to respond so quickly.

    Hahahahahaha! You made me laugh.

I do have a very good doctor. I haven't seen him a lot as the one I had previously seen a lot who was also wonderful retired, but he told me to see this doctor in particular as he was trained in mental health( it is a huge health centre). The first time I saw this doctor he told me that he would never push me into medical attention that I didn't want and if I communicated with him he would always put my wishes first. He won me over at the first appointment! I don't see him that much but we communicate through email and notes that WaSp hands into the surgery and it is perfect for me.

He also goes out a limb to arrange my blood tests at the same time as appointments, once calling a nurse off of her coffee break so that I didn't have to come back. My surgery has a vulnerable patients scheme and he is my registered doctor under that which means he is extra familiar with my case notes and will reply very quickly. All in all I am very happy with him!

    You are very lucky WaS.

I have realised I have been tardy in getting a blood test I need for September. I will try and call on Monday to arrange but i have to admit I have felt somewhat apathetic as well as unwell this week. It might be that the pills have been not staying in me. If I don't get it next week it will be too late. :( might already be.

Aw, LIR I was thinking of that the other day when you said that you were sick. You might not have retained the pills. I am terrible with getting blood tests done which are meant to be every 3 months. Hence when I have a doctors appointment he does everything while I am there before I can escape even if it isn't booked. Things really improved for me at my surgery when they brought in the vulnerable patients agreement, now they go the extra mile for anyone who falls under that, giving you the email address of your doctor for example so that you can contact them at any time.

Do try to go if you can next week but you have my total sympathy, I am just the same myself.

    LIR,

Is there an NHS drop in centre near you that you could get tests done if your own GP can't fit you in? There is one in the next town to us that is open until 8pm 7 days a week - good service too, although you sometimes have to then see your own doctor to be referred elsewhere.
