  • They used to be twice a day, then it went to once a day and now it is 4 days a week for 30-40 minutes and the funding is going for that too. They will give my MIL carers with no problem but there is no way she is going to accept them.

I am so glad someone else did the broom thing! I thought everyone might have felt I had gone loopy there!

Hope you have a very lovely day Haybel and your cake goes down well :). How is it decorated?

It is a two tier cake. The bottom tier is white with pink bows. The tops tier is pink with polka dots and a big bow on top. With pink piped details around the base of both cakes.

Well done, Haybel! I can just picture it!

WaS, this carer funding is soooooo stupid! Can they not see that they are saving money on carers for your MIL, so why not use that saving for your carer! I know, I know, different department, different funding source, but it's so annoying that someone can't use a bit of lateral thinking!

Would your partner be up to writing to your MP about it?

P.s. Meant to say, I had a broom horse too! And a tricycle horse with reins, and I used to make it rear up!

  • Yay! Broom horses are the best!

I am thinking an MP letter might be needed. As you say social services say the funding for my MIL comes from a different department so it doesn't influence funding available to me but it is ridiculous because it would cost more from the overall budget for someone to be with my MIL for several hours a day rather than my 40 minutes. We have been going round in circles with this for years.

Sounds beautiful Haybel, well done, hope that helped you realise how much talent you have! Are you going to grow the cakes element of your creative business?

WaS, I remember you mentioning the difficult situation with care for mil earlier in the thread. If she is not willing to have carers help and your partner has to be there because of his brothers erratic behaviour with the alcohol you need to contact SS as a priority. Otherwise surely you will worry until you know if there is any alternative given you cannot afford to pay your carer privately any more than the once you are paying for now? It may also take a few weeks to get it sorted. When are you planning on getting in touch with SS?

I remember playing horses with a broom :)

ETA looks like my typing took too long. WaS if you need help with your letter to the MP you can always pm it to one of us or could your teacher friend help?

The more I think about it the more I think that I should try to get the ball rolling next week. The last time this happened they said would deal with it a month beforehand only, though.

There are also complications that my BIL is my MIL's official carer. The reason my partner is involved is because my BIL can't manage it but my MIL is adamant that his carers allowance mustn't get stopped because he does so much her (he hardly does anything, she is just loyal to him). So she tells social services that she is fine with my BIL, we say no it's not fine and then MIL cries her heart out to my partner and says BIL needs the money because she knows he can't provide for himself because he's ill.

In reality BIL needs help for alcohol addiction and could probably get ESA as he is a mess but he read Doctor Google and decided that he was Bipolar (he isn't and has had a fair amount of psychiatric intervention in the past due to addictions and they never diagnosed bipolar) and has told MIL that they will lock him away and she will never see him if he asks for help. It is now his go-to reason for everything, I can't cope because I am bipolar, He does need help, environmental health cleaned his house for him a while ago because it was a health hazard but it is down to his alcohol dependency. I am not unsympathetic to him because he had a bad past as did my partner but he refuses any kind of help to deal with it which is frustrating. If anything he needs a carer himself...

    It's a mess.

We have a broom horse army!
