Apparently, there'll be a new pound coin in 2017 which will look a bit like the thruppenny bit.

I was once given a sixpence cut in half & said "Oh, a thrupenny bit!".
I still have it, & it was legal tender at the time.

I freeze left over tinned sweet corn and that works so don't see why not.0
