  • Eeeep! they are far prettier than me! I do have the same face shape as Angelina, though and my lips are full like that. I wish I did look half as good as them!

I avoid mirrors, I hardly look into them. I shall look daily, whitewing and probably cringe a lot but I will keep it up. If I had a choice I would like lower cheekbones, mine look plastic in photographs because they are so high. Less slanted eyes and thinner lips. Basically I'd have a new face other than my eye colour which I do like. My mother and father had dark brown eyes as did their parents but I picked up the colour of my dad's grandmother.

I think you should get DP involved in the mirror-looking. In fact, he can have the same task as you. He goes first so you can get used to hearing people liking themselves. You will also twinkle more if you have fun doing it.

But WaS, high cheek bones are gorgeous! I'm still trying to find mine! They're nowhere to be seen! Everyone would kill for high cheekbones!

And people pay a fortune to have their lips plumped!

And almond eyes! They're to die for!

Listen to your partner! He knows what he's talking about!

Going back to the pics, remember, they've all been professional made up. Without the make up, they probably look even more like you, if you know what I mean!

To help WaS get into the spirit of it, can everybody say something they like about themselves:

  • Good idea of asking my partner to join in! He is gorgeous with blonde hair and blue eyes. As you say it will make it more fun!

Very true, Pyxis. Make up can help a lot. I do like high cheekbones but mine are so high that they look like implants, you can actually see the bone shape when I smile. I do realise that I am sounding very prejudice against myself here, to be fair people don't run screaming from me in the streets so I suppose I am not that bad!

Could we take it a bit further than that! :)

We want a photo of DP in your book, WaS.

When I first met my DH he had a flat tummy. He used to absent-mindedly stroke his tummy if he had been running around and was hot. I used to get glimpses - it was lovely.

Do you think some of your issues about yourself was because you had so much to cope with in terms of mh issues in your family and your own illnesses that you couldn't possibly deal with the extra complications of relationships?

Do you think part of the reason of your mother telling you you were ugly was because that had been done to her? This would keep you both controlled within a dysfunctional family.

I also wonder if your mum did know or suspect about your dad's affairs, or even that she knew she made it difficult to love him. I wonder if her hurting you was her revenge to him because she couldn't deal with the pain and anger. It is still no excuse of course, and people still have to take personal responsibilities for the things they do. Don't forget too that your mother is from a generation where mh issues were a massive, massive stigma.

Was it lupus that also caused your mum the recurrent miscarriages/stillbirths? I read that people with mh issues planning children should try and have 27 months between pregnancies. You didn't stand much of a chance even in the womb, however I do believe that you were meant to be.

I think you should properly celebrate your birthday this year. With French Fancies (my husband loves them so we always have them), cheese and pineapple or grapes (I don't like pineapple) on sticks, celery chunks with primula cheese spread, cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off (that's posh). You also need a party tablecloth and happy birthday banner.

Does you teacher friend know any artists who met your dad? I am wondering if anyone could draft a drawing of him, which you could tell them how to tweak.

DP should also do a pass-the-parcel parcel for you. He can choose anything he likes for the the main present, but for each layer he should write a reason for why he is proud of you for any time since your last birthday.

Do you or your parents speak any languages?

I also think that DP should get you a pretty notebook (or prettify an old notebook). You will get a lot of ideas for short term, medium term and long term goals on this thread and you need to be able to track them easily. (Putting the post number next to them so you can go back and look if need be).

This next week, I want you to get some watercress seeds and grow some. Maybe in some empty eggshells so the cress becomes hair. Delight in the new growth and them eat it and enjoy it. Seeing things grow from seed is fascinating. (I shall probably do the same with my daughter).

It would also be good to do a fashion show for your DP, Any clothes that you have got that don't fit, or are tatty, or don't suit you need to go. Trust me, even if you end up with virtually nothing, you will be fine. (We will google togas made out of bedsheets or something).

Again, this is a task DP can do too for added fun.

I've had a few tears when my DH told me he didn't like something I had (especially if it was relatively new to me). Gradually over time I have got used to what suits me and feels good. Now there is nothing in my wardrobe that I don't wear. And there is space to look at it.

That's something I find very difficult too. I had to write a list of good things about me for my PWP and really struggled with it, I could only think of negative things.
