Thanks so much for your kindness LIR & WaS. How lovely for Harry to go online for the first time & have some friends awaiting him :) Although I'm not sure if he will speak, but lurking will be a real good start.

Talking of lurking, I lurked (mainly because I had difficulties signing in) for about a month before I actually posted on MSE. I came across the site when looking to see if I could actually get anything for free. How did others find this site?

I've been clearing the clutter too so Cancer Research has had a real treat! I even take my bubble wrap to them as it can get quite obsessive popping every one :o

    Morning!

Oh, Dibuzz, my heart goes out to you, it really does. Take it easy today, you must be so exhausted by now.

I shall chase my partner up about the 3 things, whitewing. He did suggest a Lamborghini but I ignored that.

Decluttering is going well! I am going to do another 5 minutes per room today because I really enjoyed that, it stopped me thinking too much. I shall list everything later tonight that is going out tomorrow.

It's fine if Harry lurks, Duke! Just let him know that he is already part of our team. I joined MSE when I was looking for ways to save money when I had a small debt. I put money saving into Google and it brought me here.

Thank you for the article, I have always had huge problems with thinking I am ugly. My mother used to tell me that I was and the children at school used to call me an ugly witch (it was the hair and green-grey eyes) and it has stayed with me. It sounds odd now but I was also called names because I don't look British. My school was a 50/50 mix between white Engish and Afro-Caribbean and most children who didn't fit into those two groups were ignored and teased. Although I am English, my mothers family are Scottish and my fathers grandparents were German and Polish from way back in their histories and I have picked up a lot of their European facial features as did my dad. Even now people notice it and ask if I am from Eastern Europe. The school situation was also not helped by the fact that I was often asked to model for the Art Department A level students as a teenager because my face was quite difficult to draw. It made me stand out to the other children and there was some jealousy as they paid me (that was rather sweet because my teachers knew what my home life was like so would pay me double from their budget compared to other models so that I had some money for myself).

I need to say at this point that I don't look quite that odd. I am very pale with (ridiculously) high and wide cheekbones, going down in a triangle to my chin, full lips and slightly slanted eyes with a high forehead. Not peculiar or anything, just different and very Eastern European and apparently useful to draw for art students (and very ugly to me).

Random pain time. Before Christmas I had a pain in my right side so told the doctor. We have to watch for liver problems as I am on so much medication but the test came back fine. The pain stayed around and my doctor decided it was probably muscular. Now it has centred on the lowest rib and it is painful to the touch as well as stabbing me if I move. I am wondering if it the psoriasistic arthritis forming on my rib now. Whatever it is,it hurts!

    Just popping in *waves*

A few random thoughts - forgive me, anyone, if I've missed you - it's been a total skim read in haste!

whitewing, I think your post #1362 is absolutely beautiful, and totally right.

Harry, I hope you are reading, and welcome to the forum!!!

dibuzz - so sorry you are having problems with sleep again. But don't forget you can have quite deep relaxation without realising it, so carry on meditating and that will help your body's balance. :)

WaS - we are obviously food mates! Raw mushrooms are one of my favourite things as well!

I was just wishing I'd had my hair cut before coming away. It's a total mess ATM - is it a nice colour though as it's gone ash blonde as it goes grey/white!!!!!

    Speak soon, everybody xxx

  • Hello, JM! Hope you are enjoying yourself! You have the hair colour I like! If I get grey hair I want it to turn to that colour and then hopefully white. I am still holding out for having the no-grey-hair gene, though!

    WaS,

The polish women in our area are stunning. Haven't seen too many German ones lately.

Get your DP to list 5 things he likes about your face and report back.

    No grey hair gene! Sigh.............
Both my parents started to grey in their 20s, and so did I. By my mid-30s I was colouring the grey, and have been doing so ever since!

Well, WaS, it's rather strange, but the generally-held view of beauty is high cheekbones, a heart-shaped face, (and, therefore, a pointy chin), almond eyes and a high forehead.

Now, who do I know with a face like that?
You'll have to help me out here, WaS. It's ringing a bell, but I ....can't......quite............remember............ Now, who was it, WaS?

When I was young, there was very few people in our town who had not been born in or near here. When a non-white family moved in to open a takeaway, my friend rang me at university to tell me as it was so new and exciting.

We are in a much more global environment these days, WaS. People are more used to mixed race marriages and the beautiful diversity of the human race. Schools also have more antibullying policies and there is generally less discrimination in most circles.

We were at a different park today. I still haven't seen an ugly child and I have been looking out for one.

  • Now I am blushing again!

He said I have amazing cheekbones, a beautiful eye colour, beautifully shaped eyes, a cute little nose and pretty mouth. He is biased, I tell you!

I have never liked how I look, as well it being caused by my mother and the teasing I think some of it is I looked so different back when I was a teenager. There weren't that many Europeans here then so I stood out a bit. Now there are more I blend in a bit better. On two occasions I have had polish people speak to me in their language, even they think I am polish. I look very much like my dads side of the family and he was always mistaken for European or even Russian.

I think you need to learn how to like how you look. You need to become your own best friend, as that will help you connect with other people.

Do you actually look at yourself? If not, you need to. Every single day from now until Christmas, I want you to look at yourself in the mirror, or get DP to take a photo of you, and say, Hello Beautiful. It sounds daft but you will begin to believe it.

Well, WaS, I've just put into google 'almond eyes, high cheek-bones and pointed chin.'

    Guess what came up?
These came up (amongst many others!):-

    ANGELINA JOLIE

    JESSICA ALBA

    KIM KARDASHIAN

Well, I don't think anyone would say they are ugly, by any stretch of the imagination!

So which one would you say you were most like? You have the same features.
