  • You go TTFTM! Debt busting is brilliant, I wonder if there is a board game about it? I smell an opening in the market... And isn't it funny how a single £1 can make you feel? Awesome :D

    Hi,

I popped in this thread last year when I first started sorting out my debts. I then managed to make even more of a mess but am getting back on track

I am now on a DMP with payplan. I sent the first payment on the 1st July so it wont have been received by any creditors. I don't receive many calls - but I ignore those that I do on my mobile. And when requesting calls stop and all contact be made in writing then on the whole they have cooperated.

BUT nationwide are driving me mad. They have my work number (only creditor that does thankfully) and they keep calling. They also have my landline number. I work in an open office and share a phone number and they have left messages with colleagues and my flatmate. If I answer I either tell them i'm not here or hang up (I feel quite guilty - but I cannot discuss anything with them with others around listening in).

Anyway I have wrote to them about this stating they must not call me and all contact should be in writing. I sent signed for and so I know they received the letter on Saturday. I am still getting calls today (they ring each of my 3 numbers 2-3 times per day). I was hoping it would only take a day or two for the message to filter through but now I'm worried they're not going to stop. Has anyone had any issues with calls from nationwide? Annoyingly they have a secure messaging service which Ive had fast replies from before but I get an error message every time Ive tried for at least a month now (using different PCs and browsers).

The do have an online complaint form which I was thinking of trying, but I wasn't sure if I was being unreasonable expecting them to stop already! Has anyone had issues with constant calls (nationwide or otherwise), and how long do you think is reasonable to allow them to stop before complaining/making further contact?

    Hi Meme,

    Welcome to the thread!

Good to hear you're getting your finances in order but the first month or so can be a bit of a pain...

I always encourage people to speak to their creditors as it's a nice way to get confidence in dealing with them using the mantra "I'm entering into a DMP with Payplan, my reference is XYZ, they will be in touch shortly with an offer of payment so please only contact me in writing in future".

If they persist in calling then tell them again but this time add "I've already asked that all communications be in writing, can I please take your full name as I need to record names, times and dates in case I need to make a harassment complaint".

This seems to get the message across ;)

Entering into a DMP is a scary thing so make sure you keep posting and asking any questions you have in mind and before you know it you'll be helping out other newbies!

    Good luck!

    thanks for the reply

I would talk to them - but they mostly call during work hours so I have my mobile on silent and miss those calls - but they get through to my work number. I really really dont want to talk to them here - everyone in my office can hear! Though I probably shouldnt care since everytime someone else answers the phone they tell them exactly who they are anyway.

I guess I should just man up and call them when I'm at home if it might make them stop the work calls.

I did actually enter into a DMP before - so went through the rocky start once before! I feel i feel Ive become kind of immune to their threats (I have a LOT of creditors -lots of letters!) - I just really hate the calls at work!

And i just got another one to my office - number two of today and its only 11am.

    Hi Meme,

Sounds pants... All I can really suggest is ask them to call you on your mobile at lunch time or after work? If you accept the call and tell them it's not convenient then they should stop too and arranging a time for them to call shows you're cooperating ;)

I am planning on working from home tomorrow, so will suck it up and make sure I can answer any calls to my mobile.
If id done so a while ago it would probably have saved me felling stressed and annoyed with them! It isn't their fault I'm in this mess after all - I just like to moan sometimes! Though I am still annoyed they seem to be ignoring my letter, but at least their not knocking on my door - could be worse!

LOL you live and learn right? What you'll find is often one department doesn't tell the other what's going on so the person calling likely has no clue :)

Once it's done, it's done and you'll feel like a weight has been lifted - I promise!
