DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 10

Thanks to TTFTM and MB for advice earlier.
I rang Stepchange and asked for advice about the Liability Order and how to handle it - they advised me to contact the company dealing with it immediately and to enquire about a separate settlement aside from the DMP as it was such a pressing issue (i.e they were sending the boys round) and my plan wouldn't get going until August. When I rang, the lady on the phone accepted my offer of settling the debt over 2 months and I made the first payment. So, first one down. BIG relief.
I then rang Wonga to advise them that I was in the process of setting up a DMP and they froze my account for 30 days.
I've now been through all of my hidden papers, and filtered out the junk and kept the important bits. I've written a list of everything I need to do over the next couple of weeks, eg changing my direct debit details for household costs, and sending new details to work so my salary is paid into the cash account.
It feels good to not be pretending to myself any more that everything is OK. In so many ways I am in an incredibly privileged position and it's time to stop sabotaging that!
Good on ya!
It's easy rightstick around and keep posting and you'll learn more as you go and find yourself answering questions from other newbies in no time and it's fun and rewarding too!

A little unrelated to DMP's... Or is it?
I've just finished watching Bad Grandpa and there is a scene at the end about kids beauty pageants where the prize is $5k!!!
With this kinda cash, I'd soon be able to settle my debts... Now I just need to find a kid...

You can borrow one of mine if you like? There are two that are over 6ft (one sleeps until noon then empties the fridge the other comes with a non-removable XBox but still manages to empty the fridge and outgrow clothes and shoes on a monthly basis) or there's a 7 year old that has an unhealthy obsession with computer games and despite being 3 stone eats more than the other two or there's a 5 year old who rules the house and only eats nuggets or pizza.
Actually, you might want to stick to the lion...probably cheaper to feed, less dangerous in full tantrum mode and you can sell the manure as fertiliser that scares off domestic cats

Would it be wrong to rent out a lion to parents who have too many kids?

Ex - Mr Sazzie also does this, with anyone, healthcare, financial or car insurance etc, saves load of hassle. We got our first letter today from MBNA to say that we hasn't made the minimum payment and they want last months and this months payment today. I guess our letter along with the token payment must have crossed paths with theirs but I also may have made the mistake of not sending the letters recorded delivery:(
This particular card is my hubby's (we are doing a joint DMP) so I am going to have to get him to ring up later and explain that our letter should be with them... He hates making phone calls and he's not the best on the phone should be interesting
Just a reminder to all newbies that you will likely get a lot of automatically generated 'pay now' or else letters while you are setting up the DMP. If you can bear to call them and just remind them you are in the process of starting the DMP they will leave you alone for a while. Once set up, they seem to stop sending so many but you might get the occasionally one, and ring them again to say DMP with SC/PP/CAB etc ref etc etc .
Nice to see so many on the thread, keep up the good workDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Great news about liability order :T
Regarding Wonga, have you cancelled the CPA both with Wonga and your bank?
I think most of us did a lot of pretending everything was ok and it's a huge relief to admit it's not. This needs to happen before you can have a real LBM (light bulb moment). You have definitely had yours and are acting on it!

My four would probably team up and give the poor lion permanent psychological damage! The littlest one is the most dangerous - she's very cute and sweet but has perfected a "death stare" already and manages to convince the other 3 to do her bidding! I think she'll grow up to rule the world! Lol!
Definitely consider the lion manure thing, there are loads of people out there that despise their neighbours' cats using their gardens as litter traysor simply start charging for your comments - you've cheered me up no end of times, in fact this morning, feeling very sorry for myself and you've made me grin already thinking of an acquaintance with 8 kids who's constantly calling her kids vile names your lion would save me having to listen to how terrible her life is

Well it sounds like you'll not have to worry about money in the future then... She isn't called Ming by any chance is she? Just wondered...Kate_fixing_it wrote: »Definitely consider the lion manure thing, there are loads of people out there that despise their neighbours' cats using their gardens as litter traysor simply start charging for your comments - you've cheered me up no end of times, in fact this morning, feeling very sorry for myself and you've made me grin already thinking of an acquaintance with 8 kids who's constantly calling her kids vile names your lion would save me having to listen to how terrible her life is
Hmmm... I'm thinking I could cross two industries here... 1) Lion chomps vile kids 2) produces manure to scare neighbors cats... I like it!
I was once told that I should do stand up but in person I'm just one massive endless inuendo (I honestly can't help it, my housemate recently said that it was so hot in the kitchen that she feels like a fish... Without a second thought I asked if it's because she's wet and slippery? She went red, her boyfriend nearly choked and I apologised about fifty times in the space of a minute).Time_to_face_the_music wrote: »I had 4 targets for this month:

You go TTFTM! Debt busting is brilliant, I wonder if there is a board game about it? I smell an opening in the market... And isn't it funny how a single £1 can make you feel? Awesome
