Ebay reps are not the brightest. Heres my live chat:-

"Hi, Prowla insists on coming to my house - what shall i do"

Call the police - thats what i do when i have a prowla outside my house

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Last week live chat said sellers should contact buyers asking them to remove low stars.

The people on here, who you are having a pop at, know very well that Ebay will suspend accounts of sellers who contact buyers about low stars.

Buy hey, it must be true - cos live chat said so.
You say something about ebay, I say ebay said something different, you say ebay don't know what they are talking about.

    Okies...

Lol you only have to read the threads on here and the ebay boards to know that ebay reps give out not only wrong info but info that clearly breaks ebays rules and if followed can get you banned.

My guess is you will accept the strike thinking you can easily get it removed.

Until you try to get it removed that is!!!

Also did you tell ebay that you will not pay unless seller contacts you first?
Because the impression i get from that chat is your accusing the seller of not selling.

I'm on my phone and it's playing silly b's regarding quoting but re. post 179:

prowla - Although extremely helpful, I can't help but think that this particular ebay rep. has got things a bit twisted in this instance. He is basically saying that the seller is refusing to sell to you. He's not - he's just waiting for his payment, as any seller does, before sending out an item.

And it would have been soooo funny if you'd let your ebay id slip through there somewhere when you posted. :rotfl: and gik would have been like a dog with two tails . . .

Did you read the other thread? The context was very clear; the buyer got upset and made a threat when the seller responded and said no to collection. In that case, the seller's lot had not offered collection and when asked, they responded and said no collection.

So yes, it is very specific - to the context.

In this case, the seller hasn't responded; if they do then I'll accept their reply (as I've already said).

Some are contending that the case is in itself is a conscious reply from the seller, but it appears that it isn't at all, and it's actually an automated system which occurs regardless of any messages.

If you can't see that the two situations are quite different, then suit yourself.

If the seller is ebay-savvy enough to go into his settings and set up automatic NPB procedure, then perhaps you can assume that he has noticed that payment has not been received for his recently listed item, has checked in to his ebay account, has seen your messages - and has chosen not to reply?

Incidentally, I'm just back in from collecting a complementary product from another ebay seller.

It turned out that they had two of them and also one of the item which is the subject of this thread.

I did a deal with the seller there and then, and bought all three for a tenner.

Your preference definitely seems to be for collecting your ebay items - this being the case, why did you bid on an item that did not state collection as an option, and win it, BEFORE asking if you could collect?
Was it because you really really really wanted the item and thought you could force them into letting you collect, after the sale, rather than ask before and risk refusal??

Surely their silence is your answer?

I get the impression if the seller had said no from the off you'd still not be happy as you had your mind set on picking it up when you bid, otherwise this thread wouldn't be 8 pages long....

Incidentally, on looking up the ebay help on this (http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/contact.html), I found the following note:
Note: Not all sellers accept questions before you buy an item, but all sellers will accept questions after you've bought an item.
Now, a lot of comments here have focused on the retrospective need to have contacted the seller before the auction ended in order to mutually agree a variance on the not-yet agreed agreement.

However, if it is the case that (a) is is acceptable policy to mutually agree variances, and (b) that it is acceptable policy for sellers not to accept queries before the auction end, then putting the two together , (a) + (b) implicitly means that it is acceptable policy to request a mutually agreeable variance after the auction has completed.

Therefore the assertion that ebay rules (written or unwritten) state that all such agreements must be made before the auction closes is factually incorrect.

Just to add, some sellers block pre-sales questions to avoid such situations, it's purpose is to stop these discussions not dictate when they are held.

Sellers put their terms and conditions in their ads. It's down the buyer to read them!
Ask questions before bidding! Anything else is just bad manners.

    Hi, folks.

FYI, I've blocked the people here who have use insults instead of reasoned arguments; I'm not interested in what you have to say.

I got the answer I needed, both from campdave (thanks!) and from ebay chat.

It doesn't matter whether it's an ebay seller, a shop, or whatever; if I ask them a question and don't get a reply then I'm not handing over my hard-earned (unless they do).

As I've said before, I don't have an explanation for their silence; they may be away, I don't know.

Your impression is wrong, as you would see if you'd read my response when that question was previously asked.
