ebay unpaid item case opened against me

Sellers are not allowed to overchage postage;
Sellers can charge what they want (up to certain, predetermined limits). It is up to you to decide whether you are happy to pay those costs or not, and then you have the chance to rate those costs after purchase using the star system.
If you deem the postage too much, then you should not have bid on the item.
Most people who use eBay look at the total item cost, including item and postage costs. In your case that would still have been less than the cost you subsequently bought the same items for later on. Your stubbornness has cost you money. The £15 is not the seller's money; it is mine to pay for a service which is not needed.0 -
Anyhow, in much less time than you've spent on this thread, you could have requested the seller's details and phoned them and got an answer.Yes, you're right about the possibility of getting the seller's details; I'd simply sent them a message rather than looking up their phone number. I've requested that and should be receiving an email with the info.
The reply contained only the seller's town and a phone number.
I rang the phone number and got a recorded message saying that he (it is a he) no longer uses that number and if you know him to call one of his other numbers or email him.
So, I actually have no means of contacting the seller.0 -
Sellers are not allowed to overchage postage; 3x the amount is over-charging.
Buyers are not allowed to refuse to pay but this doesn't seem to worry you.
£15 is about what it would cost if they are sending by RM or Parcelforce so they may not be overcharging at all, in fact, they may be making a small loss.0 -
Says who?

Many would disagree. It is part of the total item cost, and eBay further legitimised that way of thinking when they started charging sellers on the cost of postage.
Yes of course you look at the total cost when making a decision.
The total cost is not relevant in the context of this thread; I want the item for the agreed sale price, but I wish to save the cost of shipping it to me because (a) I can collect it for next to nothing, and (b) I've now found out that they wish to charge me 3x the amount to send it locally compared to another seller sending one from quite some distance.
My steadfastness hasn't cost me anything; I needed more than one of the item. I'm still prepared to go ahead with the seller, if they contact me (which now seems unlikely, TBH).0 -

It now appears that the seller has left incorrect contact details, and ebay are going to attempt to contact him to get them updated.
Further on the overall matter, would you be happy to give your money to someone who (a) doesn't respond to messages, (b) is over-charging for postage, (c) who leaves a disused phone number as the only means of contact?
If you would, then there is an old saying: A fool and their money are easily parted.0 -

But you clearly know that you are not entitled to collect the item.

If not then no collection.
The "reporting" thing is all a bit childish though.

I am not refusing to pay; I am waiting for a response before paying.

A and B could have been established before placing a bid, thus saving everyone the ongoing headache of this thread.0 -

or I am waiting for the moon to turn blue, or a cat to bark or (insert your own pathetic excuse here).
Ebay won't care what you are waiting for. When the case is closed, you won't have paid and you will get a strike.0
