The rise of Extremism in Economically tough times

I have a friend who was born in Wales but came to England when he was around 5 years old, now been here for about 50 years. He still considers himself Welsh and therefore a foreigner and is proud if it.
I'm Scottish, but don't feel like a foreigner when I go to England.
That said, it would not bother me if I am a "foreigner" after the referendum as I believe I am Scottish ahead of being British.:wall:

They do. I went to a citizenship ceremony at the British Embassy in Sydney with a friend who was becoming British and they gave us a very stern talk about how to deal with dual nationality, especially when traveling through Asia and more particularly the Middle East.
Basically the conversation in Abu Arabia (or wherever) was likely to go, "So Jenny Rali. You seem to be both Australian and British at the same time. Who do you think you are, James Bond? You're bloody nicked son!". Only show one passport at a time was the takeaway.
I'm solely a Pom at the moment but plan to become both soon. I have the best visa which means I have all the rights that any other Aussie does except that I can't vote and I can't work for the Federal Government. Ironically when looking for work I applied to the Equal Opportunities mob over here and couldn't get a job because I was foreign!!!0 -
The way I see the UKIP vote in the Euro elections is a bit different from the media's and mainstream parties perception of it.
It is not about immigration, racism, nimbyism or any other ism that is being spouted around on this thread.
UKIP are pretty much a one trick pony, the reason for all the other rubbish being discussed is that the mainstream parties are scared to give the thing that UKIP are after.
They want an in/out referendum on EU membership.
Why don't the mainstream parties just have this referendum ? Because contrary to what many commentators say it would be a very close run thing and not the landslide in vote that EU supporters believe it should be.
How can the mainstream parties deal with this so called protest vote - simple hold a referendum on EU membership.0 -

I doubt an Aussie would have any similar trouble in the UK.0 -

Should you have two more passports:wall:

I find it funny that a party that wants out of Europe have 24 MEP's, yet have no MP's
Obviously they hope this will change during next year's general election:wall:

I once awoke very early on a Sunday and sent a rubbish text message to Radio 5 as Jenny Rali and had it read out.
Funny what you do when you're bored.0 -

There is no equivalent visa in the UK.
The closest UK equivalent visa would be able to work for the UK Government but would have to wait much longer to have a chance at becoming a citizen. 7 years in the UK vs 2 in Aus (when I came here).0
