Meri was asking for opinions. She is not a nasty person as regular posters know.

Her point is that this woman looked out of place. I can see it.

I somehow doubt that the bride thought her mother looked out of place and I would hope that she was proud to have her mother at her wedding whatever she was wearing. To put this thread in perspective, a friend of mine who lost her mother some months before her wedding would have given anything to have her there on her special day and her outfit would not have mattered in the slightest. Having said that she is a doctor, who on her wedding day de-toured to the hospital she worked at to show her patients her wedding dress. I think her mother, who was a lovely kind person, would have been proud of her daughter (as was everyone else).

If Meritaten was invited to the wedding, she must know the bride or groom fairly well, fancy slagging off a friends Mum / Mil!

Even more rude if, as is traditional, the parents of the bride paid for the wedding or contributed towards its cost. To accept hospitality and then sneer at the person who provided it is contemptible behaviour.

I suspect that the wedding in question is the same one which inspired one of meritaten's 2012 threads about disagreements with her husband.

Her husband apparently accused meritaten of being jealous of his friend's wife (the MOB), which she denied...

I hope neither the MOB nor any of her family/friends post on here as the outfit is pretty identifiable and as for the other threads............

I have a part time business and I sell a lot of high end designer MOBs suits and dresses many of them are full length. If the OP shops for wedding outfits on the high street then she may not be aware of this trend.

A friend of the family, who has son's only and so treats me a bit like a niece or distant daughter, was excited to show me her MOG outfit some years ago. It was a long columnar taffeta dress with a beautiful jacket. And a hat. The hat and jacket could be discarded at the end of the day as the event went into the evening and be appropriate evening wear as well as highly formal day where.

It wasn't purple, but almost. It was sort of magenta.

Stunning, and she looked gorgeous. No faux fur nor Tiara, but long formal wear and a 'normal' day dress and jacket would have looked very out of place at that wedding, though no one would have made the wearer feel uncomfortable I hope.

I wouldn't question my family friends choice of MOG outfit. She has owned and sold a not cutting edge but successful clothing line, and attends functions internationally every single week. Her judgement might not be cutting edge, but always appropriate. She is also a VERY organised communicator and was very involved in helping the bride and her family and if she wore long columnar almost purple taffeta then it was appropriate at that wedding.

Do people get it wrong? Of course. And personally, I wouldn't advice standing out for the sake of it, or dressing inappropriately. But if the family were calling to steer a guest my guess is they were trying to help the guest feel comfortable on the day, nothing more.

Have to say, I don't think picking OP apart as some are is any better that OP and the very inappropriate registrars.( Incidentally, are registrars that fashion conscious as a rule? Inoffensive certainly, but I've never heard a phrase like 'as stylish as a registrar' or ' all the flare of a registrar at a civil service' :))

I think the point is better made without...the kind of vibe I imagine those registrars invoked.

Sorry to be a po faced party pooper.

I've often thought 'what the hell are you wearing' at different occasions but would never ever have the bad manners to voice it either on the internet (don't know who reads the forums) or literally (don't know whose listening)

Yes I have no doubt registrars 'mark' outfits but they were high unprofessional to do what they did.

I have no doubt there was a 'dress code' (does that mean skirts had to e of a certain length or bought from a certain type of shop?) but don't you think for one minute the bride knew what her mum was planning on wearing???

As for the outfit being long length it would be interesting to know if this was worn all day & evening.

Personally Meritaten is coming across as rather bitter .....might have been understandable if the wedding was recent but if this was the one last year why post such a horrible and b1tchy post now?

    What a nasty thread.

These people are friends of yours? God, I'd hate to have friends like that. Can't you just be happy for people? She probably worried and carefully chose her outfit. Not everyone has the same boring taste.

I think the OP was quite judgemental, and the officials were way out of line sharing their "game".

I am finding it difficult to believe that the officials played any sort of game, poet123. It des not make sense that they would go up to someone they do not know, someone who may have been related to the people they 'apparently' slated. No, it does not have a ring of truth. Not a ring of truth at all.

What is it with women and slating other women in such a nasty way though. The OP has been thoroughly unpleasant in this thread and I am not so sure why.
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

I can imagine that they perhaps make a comment between themselves if there is a 'notable' outfit but as you say whether they would go up to a complete stranger is completely different matter.

Makes you wonder whether Meritaten has made her thoughts known to her DIL.......and if she did what the DIL said to Meritaten in response

Why does the thread title remind me of Leonard Rossiter's imaginings in Reggie Perrin?

Not that I'd ever ...... mmm hhhh What was that, CJ?
