For how long?
I'm surprised that proven theft hasn't led to an instant dismissal.
Who is going to want to have her around the office after this?
If she has mental health issues they may have to take the softly, softly approach.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
So she's been suspended, maybe HR are hoping she will resign quietly, it would mean less bother to your firm .0

I would be contacting the police myself. This is planned and prolonged harassment.0

Suspect they've suspended due to employment laws.
Suspension is seen as a neutral act.
They then need to hold an investigation meeting, and then a disciplinary meeting - and there are certain timescales/notice to be given for each.
Instant dismissal without following the procedures would likely lead to a claim for unfair dismissal.0 -
Did I read correctly that you work for a bank?
My husband has worked in this industry for 20 years and if he were caught stealing anything he would be escorted off the premises then and there by security with all access to systems immediately revoked pending investigation. There's not a lot worse for a bank than a disgruntled, dishonest employee. It might be the area my husband works in but I would have thought that company rules would dictate the same for everyone.
There's also no chance of her ever getting a job in this area again if she is sacked.0 -

Having read the whole thread I agree with Jenhug. This wasn't just a few instances of a yoghurt or some coffee being pilfered, it was a sustained and carefully-considered campaign of taking random items from Yvonne's daily lunchbox - the meat (but nothing else) from within a chicken sandwich, portions of fish but not the accompaniments, etc. - for no purpose other than freaking her out; which, if you read the posts where Yvonne (a perfectly rational and sensible poster) was reduced to tears in front of her boss, very nearly worked.
It is evil, devious, bullying and, had Yvonne not had the good sense to pursue it, could have had lasting effects on her well-being and her ability to trust her innocent colleagues.
The deeply unpleasant miscreant deserves the sack. Personally, I am not a vindictive bod, but if this had happened to me and HR persisted in doing the minimum I would have no hesitation in going to the Police. If she gets away with a slapped wrist, I am almost certain it won't be long before she is unable to resist the urge to 'punish' Yvonne for 'getting her into trouble' (let's not forget she was ALSO behind the "OP's an alcoholic" false accusations).
Best wishes to you, Yvonne. x0 -
I was wondering if this girl has any other 'past history' ?
Maybe there are other victims in the firm who may come forward.
I do hope the OP is okay, its all together a very unpleasant situation to find yourself in. The office gossips will be in overdrive.
Keep your head up OP

What a B****! I agree with whoever said she was after your job.
Has she been suspended purely for the theft? If there's a separate procedure to make a formal complaint of harassment with HR I'd do it. You really don't want her to just get off with a warning.
Hope you're feeling better now she's been found out.
Btw I LOVE the musical pringles box idea! Genius.0 -
