Hi everyone,
Please could I stick at £200 for August (my month runs from 26/7/14 - 26/7/14). This is for myself, Bf and the pets and includes toiletries etc.
It's going to be a 5 week month for me and my BF is at home 3 days extra a week using up holidays so it's going to be a real test. It's a good thing really as I've only 2 full pay days left until full time studentness so I'm desperately trying to make every penny count.
Good luck everyone!0 -
Hi, it has been a long time since I've done this! Last time there was just me and dh, now we are 3, with the youngest being almost a year old. I really need to get back into the habit of doing this, spending has got completely out of hand during the past year. For August, I'd like to challenge myself to £150

Using up some lo roast pork tonight that I'd frozen. Will add it to a jar of sweet and sour sauce and serve with blue dragon noodles. Quick and easy!

I've drafted a shop for Saturday afternoon by which time I hopefully will have defrosted my freezer. The inside freezer is very iced up and its impossible to know what I have. Its also very difficult to open one of the drawers.
Its funny how I know I need a few things - bread, apples, tomato sauce but then myself with a basket for several tens of pounds....
I was going to have the shop tomorrow evening but decided I can made do until Saturday by which time hopefully I will have meal planned and have gone through my list with a fine toothcomb !
I don't know if anyone else gets confused and I don't know why the supermarkets make it hard to compare the prices of their product by giving the price per 100g for some things and the price per kg for other items and sometimes per item!
Anyhow - my question for today is what's the best maths to use to work out the price per 100g for tomato sauce? The (usual) price is £2.39 for 570g so the label says that's 42p per 100g. But its on offer for £2.00 so I want to work out the price per 100g so I can see if its better to buy that one or a bigger sized bottle. I haven't woken up yet this morning so can't fathom the maths!0 -
Spends so far are £48.70 . That's too much - it should be £40 and the most annoying thing is that I have no one to blame but myself - Sainsbury's had brita filters on offer and I spent £8 on 3 (half price), thinking we only had one left. We didn't, we had 2 plus a fresh one in the kettle. Enough to last ages. Still, at least I learnt quickly that I can sabotage myself with my stockpiling tendencies. Mustn't do that again!0

Agree with you that it's difficult when SMs use different ways of showing the price - I don't mind as long as they show per 100g or per Kg as they are easy enough to compare, it's the things where they price per item or per pack but don't show a weight.
The answer to your price per 100g for tomato sauce is 35p per 100g @ £2.00 for 570g bottle. The way to work out the price per 100g is to divide the price of the item (in this case £2.00) and divide by the number of grams in the item (in this case 570g) and multiply by 100; for the bottle of sauce it would be £2.00/570*100. Hope that makes sense to you.
I haven't been shopping since last Thursday and need to go again tomorrow as getting short of milk, fruit, veg etc. Just need to go and check the fridge, freezers & cupboards against my meal plan and see what else I actually need to put on the list. I'm trying to only buy what we need at the moment in order to empty one of my freezers (I've got 3!) because we go on holiday in 3 weeks time.
