Can I be put down for £200 again in August please? After taking part for the first time in July, I think I can do it much better in August.

Hi reporting a first spend of £39.77 for August and doing big shop in Al*i using the voucher from last week first thing tomorrow before it gets busy.
Flat Eric - I use mysupermarket to compare prices and you can use a tool there on the drop down to the right hand side that will sort and compare using price per unit. Hope that helps.
    Just about to update signature.

Massive thanks to PennyGrabber, Frizzle, meg72 and lynnejk for your fab camp food suggestions. I think I was struggling to get into frugal camping mode - I tend to see camping as a challenge to my culinary prowess! :rotfl:

Been a bit awol as busy sorting for camping trip. Anyway, Went to A5da, c00p and morrys on monday for some things to pickle (bread and butter pickle thanks to mrslurcherwalker on another thread) and some cheapo vinegar. Was hoping to swoop on some ys bargains but reductions were minimal, and it was only an hour from closing so didn't bother. :(

Spent £9.97 in Mr T's at lunch time, £2.37 in Mr A's and £3.30 in Mr M's. Someone had left 3p in the self-serve in Mr A so that was pocketed and popped in the tin! 2 NSD's since then so £111.07/192 and 3/15 NSD.

Good morning, thanks for new August challenge. Can you please record a sum of £200 for me for the month of August please? Up to now no spends but am going to make use of the Sun Morrisons Moc this weekend and that will be the first spend of the new month. Im going to buy 6 Suns to get £30 worth of meat, that is my limit due to lack of freezer space. Have a good month everyone.

Agree with you that it's difficult when SMs use different ways of showing the price - I don't mind as long as they show per 100g or per Kg as they are easy enough to compare, it's the things where they price per item or per pack but don't show a weight.

The answer to your price per 100g for tomato sauce is 35p per 100g @ £2.00 for 570g bottle. The way to work out the price per 100g is to divide the price of the item (in this case £2.00) and divide by the number of grams in the item (in this case 570g) and multiply by 100; for the bottle of sauce it would be £2.00/570*100. Hope that makes sense to you.

Thank you. That's very helpful. I always get confused [and annoyed]. Classic example is apples. If I buy individually then it simply says [eg] 35p per apple, nothing else. If I buy a bag, I get a price per kg/100g. So difficult if not impossible to work out the best value. Its unlikely I am going to stand in the shop weighing the apples and I can't do this if I am at home buying my groceries online.

Thanks justthetwoofus I have used my supermarket in the past but I have become lazy and I end up doing the shop direct with the supermarket. I must get back into the habit of using this site as I have had good cashback deals in the past from them.

So I bit the bullet and defrosted the freezer last night. I decided I couldn't wait until the weekend. I now need to organise it. I have three drawers, the middle drawer is the biggest and the bottom drawer is quite small as its missing a corner section (if that makes sense) I'd be interested how you would organise it. I kind of want a drawer for meat, a drawer for veg/chips and a drawer for bread/ice/ice blocks and pudds. I need four drawers really....

I hope everyone has a good day. I think now the defrosting the freezer job is out the way, I shall turn out my cupboards at the weekend and tidy them/sort so I can meal plan properly.

I think this may include sorting my spices out. Some are outdated - possibly going back to 2010/2011 ! would you keep these or ditch ?

Could I join in again with NZ$65 please?
  • Hi - quick update - have just struggled to spend £45 in Al*i - but made it by buying treat of lamb steaks and pork fillet!!!

Now have all meat for the month! Just veg milk and fruit shops to do weekly. Don't eat much bread or butter anymore.

    Sig updated.
