I've just done my menu plan up to Thurs, I think I can do one shop today and have enough in bar maybe milk (and bread) to last until Friday.

    Menu is

    Breakfasts

    Toast/Pancakes/Swiss Bircher

    Lunches

Homemade Mushroom Soup from the fridge, with bread and cheese.
    Beans and Potato Wedges.
    Pasta and Sauce.

    Dinners

Slow Roasted Pork Ragu and Spaghetti.
Leftover Pork Rolls with Potato Wedges.
    Beef Stir Fry with Noodles.
Jacket Potato and Beans (Beans on Toast for DH, he won't eat Jacket Potato).

    Snacks/Puddings

    Fruit (Bananas/Raspberries/Blueberries)
    Crumble and Custard
    Gingerbread Men (FF)
Bottom of the Cupboard Bars (FF)

Hoping my shopping comes to £20 or less as that is all I have!!!

    ***EDIT***
Just got back and I spent £21.78. I did buy 2 lots of free range chicken breasts that were YS, 1 of them had the YS removed and as the checkout lady couldn't reduce it she gave them to me for £2 (not as good as the 15p bargains but I can't go shopping when they do the 75% reductions). Happy with what I spent and bought, can't do the big shop often though as it is a nightmare to carry home with a pushchair, a baby and a toddler! Hoping tomorrow an NSD and only milk on Weds or Thurs ^_^

I've finally finished my August accounts - having had to hunt down 2 receipts (still got a 3rd missing, but it was for just one item and I know how much), go through card statements for a couple I didn't get receipts for (other than the card transaction which I never keep once it's on my on-line statement), and track down dozens of on-line purchases.

I set myself an August budget of £290.69, and have spent [strike]£246.90[/strike] £258.72

Given I've had to rely on ready meals for most of the month instead of using meat that was already in the freezer (having broken my wrist in July, and had an operation mid-August to insert a biiiiig plate to hold things together) and catered for OH, his niece and my 2 older GDs for a 5 night holiday plus OH and his niece at mine for an additional 4 nights (instead of just OH for 4 nights) I'm more than happy with that figure, even though I would normally have hoped to come in at under £200.

I'm now back to some basic home cooking (though I half expect to be told by the physio on Monday I shouldn't be), so hope to pull my monthly spends back down for the rest of the year.

  • Unfortunately, being off work for two weeks during August seemed to affect my grocery budget more than I thought. I have gone over budget, but still a lot less than I'm sure I was spending before keeping track.

I need to make allowances for holidays and other special events in my budget. Oh well, over to September to see if I can do better.
