It was quite the exciting shop on Sunday - managed to get a basket full of reduced fish, whole cod loins for 30p!! They freeze well. Also got a few packs of avocados for 10p, houmous and salsa for 5p. Spent under £5 total. Yesterday batch-cooked lots of soups for work, as realised that buying them was expensive - did a spicy carrot, and a creamy cauliflower one. Will update my total soon for August, but think that our total spend on food and household products (loo roll etc.) this month will come in under the £160 budgeted, around £125. Absolutely amazing, thank you all for your inspiration!!September 2014 Grocery Challenge = £160 on target
Secret Savings Fund = £150/£2000, plus £120 in vouchers

the Christmas meats and several other bits .
Blimey you're organised for Christmas!! I should follow your example, last year was our first Christmas in our new house and we were a bit indulgent...September 2014 Grocery Challenge = £160 on target

Well only gone over budget by £5.89 so I am happy with this
thought I would go way over budget, normally I wouldn't plan or look for anything so it does pay to sit and look for offers and plan.
I am now off to the September thread see you there! x :jDebt Free - Now time to look to the future! :T0 -
Another spend in the corner shop yesterday and a spend in Asda today, haven't got receipt to hand though, it was roughly £10.
Quick question, what do people do with the reduced salsa and hummus they buy? Is it freezable or do you just buy it to use on the day?Stay at home Mum to DS Oct 2011 and DD Dec 2013

You can freeze them. I put them in single portion mini-bags and then put in a labelled box in the bottom of the freezer and thaw as needed. Seem to keep ok for 2/3 months, separate a bit but stir back together.
Well done to all those at end of their month and coming in under budget :T
I'm here, as always, to the bitter end :rotfl: but had another NSD and so still under budget for the month
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday

Bought a load of birthday cakes yesterday for the office, but I'm so glad of this challenge because a DIY surprise happened this month, so with my budgeting I am actually prepared for it.
Going to have to have a change of diet as I'm getting fat. I know it's been my birthday but 5lbs!!!! I was supposed to be going the other way! I'm going back to a mainly plant-based diet*, cutting out booze and chocolate. see if that helps.
*Mmm... aspidistra! :rotfl:Keep reading books!

Kia ora, I have a final total to report of $61.60 after buying some more fruit & veg, so I came in under budget, just. I know I won't be shopping again in August, as I have all but one of my meals already prepared in the freezer. Plus I'll be focused on cooking to restock the freezer for September0
