Update to my spends over the weekend - £12.76 spent on Saturday and£7.24 spent on Sunday. Did an online shop to be delivered tomorrow and am having a meat box delivered on Thurs. Menu all planned, then rejigged as realised hadn't accounted for veg that needed using.

I ordered a bunch of household stuff to last the month, hopefully, which put my weekly total higher than it should be (unless I can spend less than £20 on top ups this week) so hoping the rest of the week's spends will be a bit lower......

How do people work out separate household item budgets? I'm not totally sure how much I use each month yet as I just buy it when it's run out (until now).

Hi guys newbie (kind of been here once before) here. :D

Decision to quit work has finally been made (have two kids under two) so having to cut on spending aiming for £65 a week shopping, this week hit £65 on the dot, we are doing click and collect from Asda I find this 100 times easier then working out as your going round in a trolley as you can take things out look for the best deals with ease...and no delivery charge as we collect (to be fair it's literally up the road)

Will be £260 on a four week month and £325 on a 5 week month :-) I have a cash back credit card so it's how it works out for me.

Personally I have set myself this goal of £65 and I will spend £65, if I don't need to spend as much one week I'll top up on house hold stuff, this week I brought loo roll (a big pack to) despite not needing it yet to tot up my shopping > might seem silly as trying to save money but I spent a good hour getting the best deals online and we have more meat (&meals) this week then we would of if we had spent 80-85 going round a store....I am hoping that if I can top up on things on the low spend weeks then I won't need to over spend on other weeks when you need random extras like ketchup butter ..you know the stuff that goes once every 3 weeks etc....heres hoping!

I don't think I could separate it into items - that's why I have a general household budget :rotfl:

Okay, so a quick inventory revealed I needed more than yoghurt... I had no sandwich stuff for this week, or cat food. So a trip to Asda was in order...

I managed to drop my yoghurt when I got home and split the pot. Great, I'll have to use it all this week, and it won't last to be starter for my homemade batch after the weekend.

Planning some savoury muffins to take away with me when I go away this week... :)

You could freeze your starter for your homemade batch.

Needed to do a top up shop today. A couple of things in my fridge and fruit bowl went off a bit earlier than expected. Very annoying. At least I'm still well-stocked for most dry goods.

Another £6.06 spent on eggs, big pack of tomatoes, bag of lemons, houmous, shower gel, a reduced pink grapefruit and snacks to last the week. I still need a couple of things that wouldn't have fitted in my bag today, but if it can't go in the bag, it can't come on the bike.

Also, I've realised one reason why my food bill has crept up: all the extra exercise I'm doing this month and last means I burn roughly an extra 3000-4000 calories per week i.e. it's like feeding an extra adult for 2 days!

    That's me up to £28.19/£90
    Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
    House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY
  • Hi
Haven't been on for a while, but am still tracking and am on target for the month.
Just had coffee with a friend and she was off to the shops to buy soup and a bun for her and DH for lunch. "Only $6 she tells me. Not worth doing it yourself"
I had home grown and homemade pumpkin soup on the stove (wood burner, using free wood) and homemade buns proving on the bench. Soup will last two days as will the buns. Total cost for two days about 50 cents. And it tastes sooo much better.

Its a great day for soup today been raining most of the morning and is very cold (12 degrees).
    Cheers everyone
