Just been into M's with 2 x fruit and veg vouchers. Spent £1.07 in total and have plenty of veg for tomorrow's Sunday lunch as well as enough veg and fruit for next week. Also popped into F Foods for a few bits. Altogether today we've spent £15.24 on the food account. Also did my online Mr T shop ready for next week's delivery. It, at the moment, comes to £32.64, but that includes a big box of baby wipes. I've updated the month's total in the signature.

We've spent £16.31 over half by this point, but that includes 12 packs of wipes, 2 massive packets of nappies as well as a few bits like washing capsules, etc. I'm confident that we can come in under £160 for August!!

spends now total £26.26. Used a fruit & veg voucher today and paid over £10 on top. I have one voucher left for tomorrow and will get some red peppers as want to make soup may get a couple of courgettes as well to use grated in other dishes. Daughter also spent two vouchers today and added extra cash to it as she had loads. She has two children who are both fruit & veg monsters :)

Have take out chicken for tomorrow's meal and keep your eyes and ears open because there is talk of another meat voucher in a couple of weeks. I really don't know if its going to happen but have heard it from a few different people. Time will tell.
I doubt we will have made much of a dent in our stocks but if it happens will probably get one paper (just to be sociable you understand) :rotfl:

    Hi,

Been AWOL (hols, ill, busy, etc.) for a week or so but been keeping up reading. I bought 5 Morry's vouchers as I've been on a bit of a preserving kick! Spent 2 vouchers on everyday fruit and veg then the rest on peaches, strawberries, apricots, apples, plums and citrus. I nipped into Waitr0se & A1di the other day for sugar and some bits and pieces and picked up lots of reduced soft fruits. Bought some local honey and sandwich fillers today - whilst trying to keep the OH in check, he's like a magpie with bread and treats!

Have had various spends over the last week or so bringing my total to £178.72 so not much left but I hope we'll only need milk and I've only got 8 days left to manage.

I now have about 35 jars of assorted chutneys, jams, jellies and pickles to keep us happy in winter - trying to eat a bit more seasonally and not rely on imported, tasteless stuff. I do have, now, a surplus of apricots and nectarines that I got for jam but am all out of jars. I'm thinking of stewing them down and freezing ready for jam when I have more jars! :D

Depends on whether you want to use them all in one go! If you only want to use some of them then I would open freeze them on a baking sheet or similar by spreading out in a single layer until they have frozen and then put into a freezer bag. You'll then be able to take out as many as you need for your meal.

As you are on your own I would tend to go for vegetables and fruit which will keep a bit longer like potatoes, onions, apples, pears etc.

    Denise

Thank you Denise -I'm not at all domesticated and a rubbish cook so any advice is helpful. I already bought lots of spuds, onions etc that I thought would keep and have already managed to chomp my way through the vast majority of the fruit I bought so I may well end up with runners for the freezer and yet more fruit:)

Not a daft question at all, yes you can if you want but as you are on your own like me I would suggest you portion it out.

These will keep for about a year, but I find the colour fades to a not very nice grey if not blanched. if you are only thinking of keeping for a few weeks then they will be fine.

I doubt that they'll last more than a week or two in the freezer - my favourite veg. Thank you for the help - much appreciated

I have two vouchers left to use tomorrow. We went to a friend's house for lunch today, and I took, among other things, a load of fruit. She was appreciative, and I didn't feel too bad about leaving the uneaten stuff there, as I know I can get some more tomorrow!! I did tell her that it was free!!

Tom I will get grapes, mango, oranges, cherries, carrots, spuds, peas and red onions. That should see us eating well for a while! I'll also need to get yoghurts and I might treat us to some port salut, as dd tried it for the first time today and loved it, and it's one of my faves too. Shame it's sooo expensive!

    Night all,

Took hubby to Morrisons to use up my two f and v vouchers. It showed me how little you get for £10 in morrisons! Wish I had picked up more vouchers.
Anyway didn't need a full weekly shop so was supposed to be only basics like milk ham, yoghurts, fruit and veg. Then added a few things to the list before we went- powdered milk and mixed fruit to try some hot cross buns in the bread machine. I didn't think aldi would sell powdered milk! Although. Didn't realise until after I checked the receipt that the mixed fruit was £2.99! Also wanted frozen peas, baked beans and ice cream. While shopping hubby added a few things to the trolley- popcorn for family film afternoon and Belgian buns (which I resisted so hubby has eaten both of them to stop the temptation!). He did run 17 miles yesterday so deserved a treat even if it wasn't great refuelling!
They also had toilet rolls on offer so £5 spent there. We only had 3 left in the cupboard which is very rare for us!
So £30.58 to add to our total.
