£19 in aldi. £10.65 in lidl. My mother gave me the suns Morrison's meat voucher. She didn't use it as she could not see anything she wanted. I could not understand that either. I spent £6.23 on 2 packs of steak mince and two packs of skinless and boneless chicken thighs. That's all I need.

Ooooh, this looks like the sort of challenge I need. Can I join?
I have been thinking alot lately about how I spend the monthly budget.Especially how much I spend on impulse buys and single ingredients at the corner shop because I haven't meal planned.I started a thread about my frittering,if anyone would like to drop in and say hi,or join me
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5025275

So,having realised that in an average month I spend £330-390 a month,I am going to budget for £300 to start with, then hopefully decrease over the months. My family is myself,OH,and 4 children age 5-12.We have no pets (well,African land snails only eat a few greens a month ),but will be including all grocery spends:food, cleaning stuff, and "nips to the corner shop" 018.gif.

I have usually shopped at Tesco for "big shops",then often drop into whatever supermarket is on the way when I am running short of an ingredient (or a whole idea for a meal ).Since looking closely at the budget over the last week or so,I have decided to start shopping around alot more.On Thursday(July budget),I went into Aldi, which I was impressed with the price of,though not sure I could do a whole month's shop there.Getting the £5 off at Morries was the first time in years I had been into my local store,so must start shopping around alot more

We are going camping for a week next week.Until then I am trying to run down supplies in fridge, freezer and cupboards.Having said that, have just spent £20 using the Morrisons vouchers on meat, and frozen most of that (£15 of it from August budget-runs 1st-31st Aug).

Really must get back to meal-planning.Will check out the lists of recipes at the start of the thread, thank you.

Iv seen people saving for doing bulk buying, I must get myself a system as I sometimes go over my monthly budget because of a great bulk deal I have seen, what do others on here do? do you have seperate budget for bulk buying, Iv read people talk of a "second purse" so that may be something I may have to look at. Happy MSE shopping..
If you want to look back at my post no 127 I've written about mine :)

Had very low spends yesterday so still have £10 left out of this weeks budget. Used my vchr in Morrys and got three big salmon steaks and a big pack of braising steak which will be used in the Autumn once the weather changes a bit. Spent £8.71 which included a big bag of Winalot dog biscuits for the dog who refuses to comply with the "downsize challenge"! He just will not eat cheaper biscuits, so its false economy to even try! lol!
Used a clubcard vchr for my milk in Tesco so 50p for 8 pints. Very satisfying!
    I love vouchers!

you will always be rich enough to be generous.
  • Decided to go with S********* home delivery, spent a total of £54.30. Store cupboard & freezer restocked so no more spends this week hopefully. DH is going to hold onto my debit card so I no calling in C*** on the way home from work.

Jumping back in here with an £80 budget this month please.

£11.94 spent so far this month on essentials to keep us ticking over. Apart from a bottle of milk that was all spent on buying the meat for the month with our Morries meat vouchers we both had.

S*insbugs on Friday to buy the meat for the roast today. M*rris0ns yesterday (my once in a blue moon visit) and T*sc0 today mean its been an expensive weekend grocery wise. Yesterday's trip was unplanned but I stocked up on loo roll and coffee and got a new kitchen bin (I later found the same (looking bin) was £5 more expensive in Arg0S :T) I tried to be good and not buy too much but visiting a shop I don't normally visit meant a few unplanned treats and spends.

I did however manage to pick up some bits that I was intending to have delivered from T*sc0 today at lower cost so revised this list when I got home and have saved a few pennies.

Now to rein the belt in and try and stay out of the shops

Oh dear. Now spent £40.04 of my £120 for the month but quite a lot of this was 'spaving' - I have recently bought a Brita water filter as the water here is so terribly hard and the tea tastes medicinal somehow. The refils are on offer in Sainsburys and I also had a short-dated voucher for there so I have stocked up supplies for the next six months or so whilst I can. I so hate to have to buy in a hurry without being able to check out the best prices.

I harvested my potatoes today. They are Charlotte type and grown from two £1 seed packs from Poundland in two potato sacks from a similar source. I have a bucket full of lovely clean spuds and will have to dry some or they will quickly sprout. Every little helps! Picked up two big avacados and some asparagus in Asda on my way home for £1 in total, so there are a few treats over the next day or so. Only 28 days to go and £80 left - maybe I am being over-optimistic!

  • £40 spent from grocery budget now....had to get some olive oil, pasta, tuna, tinned tomatoes, cereals, bread, peanut butter, jam, yoghurt, feta cheese, milk, pizzas (ready for Friday pizza night!) sparkly water, shower gel and loo roll. Not too bad a spend considering how expensive olive oil is and I shouldn't need to buy anything else other than some more milk, fruit and veg for the rest of the week....I will get that from Ald* tomorrow though!! :D
