Free M&S current account - £100 in M&S vouchers if you switch

I had (have again) had that. I assume you set the page s a 'favourite' like I did. The link "went bad" per M&S. Sotrted a new one, but still doesn't work. TYPE mandsbank into google search and log in from there. It will work (don't know why the other doesn't)0

Thanks, you were right, all working fine now.0

I suspect asked and answered before but I'm confused as to whether:
1. Your account has to be closed as part of the switch to get the 100. I have loads of current accounts but I don't want to close any of them - they're all useful in some way or another.
2. You can switch from an account with nothing going on (i.e no DD, salary payments etc).0 -

Wow.
Did you try finding the answer?

Wow.
Did you try finding the answer?
Post number 2 on this thread.
How does post 2 or the link answer either of my questions? If you know the answers you could just answer and be helpful. I've 'flicked' though the thread - I haven't got time to read the whole thing - and have seen ambiguous posts. It's not like I'm a hit and run first time poster. I do actually contribute to the forum so though I might be indulged just this once.
So 'wow' right back at you.0 -

If you read it fully, incl, the linked information, you shouldn't really be left with any questions.0 -

Help me then. Where does it show me:
1. Whether you can switch from an account with nothing to switch. You see I don't know whether a switch can even happen if there's nothing to switch. Maybe it's rejected. Maybe they go through the motions but M&S don't class it as a switch when nothing shows on the new account. Maybe it doesn't matter and it's a switch no matter what. I genuinely don't know and that's why I'm asking.
2. Whether you have to close the account you're switching from. Is that what it means by a 'full switch' or is that just where everything is switched over? If that is what a 'full switch' means, do they ask you to do that in practise? Again, I don't know. When I opened my Halifax they gave me my 100 quid and let me keep my old account open.
Ringing them would have been less frustrating that this and they'd probably have told me something I didn't know.0 -

Re 'nothing to switch', some people (not necessarily those switching to this account) have reported receiving incentives for switching an account with no SOs/DDs present. However, why risk it? Simply set up a couple of SOs or bill payments and deposit £1 before initiating the switch.
It all sounds academic really, unless you open a donor account somewhere with the sole purpose of switching it to M&S?0 -

So 'wow' right back at you.
Wow.
So, I'll be helpful.
1. Create a 'duff' current account with £1 in it; use any bank apart from M&S. Give the details to M&S bank and let them deal with the switch.
2. No need for DDs, SOs, salary etc. Although creating a SO will make your switching application look a bit more genuine. Gift card will arrive within 1 calendar month from the switch completion date.
As I said, all in post 2; right back at ya.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member
