My Mum got her gift card yesterday.

Less than 30 days after opening the account.

She opened a Halifax Reward Current Account today and started the switch process which will commence tomorrow (from M&S to Halifax).

As soon as you get your gift card; there is no obligation to stay with them.

No obligation but I happy to stay with them for the £100 free overdraft.

I certainly do not want to be regarded as a tart. I have my reputation to consider!!

When I was FD, I certainly spoke with people who didn't sound like they were from either Leeds or Hamilton.

When I enquired, FD said they use HSBC Bank staff for a number of functions and many of these are overseas.

    Possibly.

However, was it not initially a split venture with HSBC but M&S sold their half to HSBC.

But also remember MKS have their own banking license so that cosy arrangement may change in time.

I have never used the switching service, nor attempted one of these bonuses.

Could I absolutely clarify this is the best way of doing things?

I apply online for an M&S Premium (Premier?) account at a cost of £10 / month
Via some post / phone calls, I finally have a fully functional account.
I then call the switching service to transfer a dormant (with no SO/DDs) into the M&S account.

At this point (within 1 month), I receive £100 and £50 giftcard and some coffee vouchers.

After 3 months, I downgrade to a free M&S current account.

    Have I understood that correctly?
    Thanks

Yes that how I have done it. Factor in about 20 mins for the first phone call and 10 minutes for the second.

After applying for the account it takes about 2 weeks before the account is fully functional. (debit card and internet banking e.t.c) I would wait till then before instructing the switch.

    Good Luck. :)

is the premier account mandatory to get the switching incentive to avoid the hassle of canceling after 3 months?

i rang them while doing the switch and asked for the first day i can cancel, they downgrade you to a normal account.

easier just to ask them when you can cancel

Has anyone been able to log into their account in the last couple of days? It just keeps saying "We're sorry, but this service is not available at the moment."
