Im in a mixed race relationship, I'm white british, and my wife is Chinese. Race has never been an issue, and both our families and all our friends don't care about what race we are, as long as were happy! (P.S. Mixed race kids tend to be cuter!! but I'm prob bias!)0

I was fortunate to have a father who brought up his 3 sons to believe that there is only one race: the Human Race. Why else can every single human male or female, can interbreed with every other female or male, if both are fertile?
Our dad did this at a time when it was not fashionable or accepted. Example 1: In 1947 I was 2 years old, my brothers in their teens. They met a German POW who worked on a nearby farm and he needed someone to take him to a British home so that he would have a contact in order to leave the camp and socialise. Dad accepted him into our home and the family made him welcome, his own family were lost to him in the East.
Example 2: I grew up with someone who was the only black lad in the village and we are still lifelong mates. He was the eldest and working, came home after a night shift to find they had gone back to the Caribbean. We took him in for a short while until he found lodgings with an elderly lady and he looked after her until she died, even after he had married with kids of his own, he saw her most days, got her shopping, took the children to see her.
In both those examples, my family were criticised locally for befriending people who were seen as 'different' - but both men were accepted by everyone, after a very short time. I never forgot the lesson our dad taught us, that people are basically the same and there is only one race of humans.
So go for it, girl: things have changed so much in this country in the years since the events I describe. Just be yourself, who else can you be? If I had met someone of a different skin colour, religion or culture, in my youth, and fancied her, I would have had the example of my dad and I would have gone for it!I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

pardon me if i come across a little defensive here but are you implying that there are not many black middle class men/women?
I would say in terms of class-geography, that could possibly be true.
In the home-counties, races other than Caucasian are still very much a minority. For instance, the site I work on (multiple businesses) has about 1000 people. 2 of which (that I have ever seen) are black.
I don't know if that's more to do with the middle-england location or that it is a science/engineering park., but the catchment is very European (lot's of nationalities here).
It might be an unfair representation for the area, but it certainly sticks out to me.0 -
I'm white British and am 4 months into seeing my girlfriend who is black. We met online and it was me who approached her. I thought that I might not get a reply but she did and thank god for that.
I don't know why you're having no luck but if it's any help I spent a long time on dating sites and got no replies from ANYONE whatever their race. You'll get there and when you do it will have been worth it.0 -
David Beckham - you're kidding - Brian Blessed for me........
I'd be deaf within a fortnight, but it would be worth it!Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

Love knows no colour. We are all human at the end of the day, just different cultures and upbringing. Did your family not like the fact that he was chinese
They would have been the same if he had been Black, French, Turkish, in fact anything except British. oh, and he had to be working class! no Posh Lads for me! They were just inverted snobs and racist too.
and Susie - you just said it yourself 'Love knows no colour' - so don't discount Black guys either!0 -
My boyfriend is white, I am not. We met online. For us culture is more significant than colour, and there are enough differences there! I grew up in a very multicultural place and am used to seeing mixed raced couples/children, my boyfriend slightly less so. His family have been so welcoming and I feel very lucky. If we have children they'll get the benefit of both of our influences.
Although i'm a Londoner I went to uni down in a smaller town, and the thing about black middle class people is true. You don't really realise how multicultural London is until you compare it to other places.Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
