i have a gay nephew, a mixed race grandson and i am disabled ...
so i know all about how cruel certain sections of society can be. ( both historically and currently)
i really dont care who anyone chooses to have sex with ( as long as it's legal... and yes i am aware how recently homosexuality was made legal... and shame on us for that!)
there are many things about people that cant be changed and being gay is one that isnt immediately apparant, in the way that colour and disability can be.
i just dont understand why some people feel the need to publicise something that most of the population consider normal.
especially when it gets peoples backs up and makes their own lives more difficult as a result

Well, certain idiots will pick on people because of disability, sexuality, looks, obesity, race etc., etc
But, although I am not gay, my gay mates (over a certain age) do say that life is a whole lot easier than it was 30 years ago, as it should be.
Only when people stop scapegoating and making ill informed judgements against groups that don't fit their narrow minded agenda, will we have true equality.
But, we are getting there
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
That thread is funny!
Some chap has emailed Stonewall about it, but fails to realise the issue is not one of homophobia, it is one of professionalism. Employers don't appreciate silly email addresses, I would expect the JCP to take the same action against anyone that cannot comply with a simple request such as using a sensible address.
I do wonder how gg intends to take legal action against the JCP, given that he can't even afford to pay his CT bill!
It's truly pathetic grounds for a sanction though.
My advisor can't access my universal jobmatch account no matter what I do or how many accounts I create with however many email addresses. It's got to the point where I have to walk in there log into my Universal Jobmatch on my phone and hand her the device.
Nobody uses universal jobmatch to search for jobs, in that regard it's not fit for purpose and doesn't hold a candle to something like Indeed so the address you use shouldn't really matter.
Something does however strike me as being wrong with the OP's posts, I get the impression his advisor's are being really strong with him and they're typically like this is if you've been insulting to them or you're not playing the game.
Everyone knows these rules and directives are stupid, you don't do them because they're helpful you do them because you're told to do them and the reason you're told to do them is because:
a) The notion that money should always occur as an exchange for something. The idea that you should get money without any obligation to do anything doesn't sit well with anyone but millionaires.
b) People are petty, the reason we have a standard 8 hour day even though some people could realistically do everything that needs to be done in an hour is because if someone who works 8 hours clocks you leaving after an hour they get jealous and ask "Why does he get to leave and I don't? That's unfair!", so now everyone has to sit around playing Angry Birds or "pretending to work" until they're allowed to leave.
Same principal with the dole, people forget that it's a socialist measure to make up for the inherent weakness of a capitalist economic model which requires some level of surplus employment to function properly. Many people think of it as being paid for not working or being paid to look for work when in actual fact it's a small measure of compensation to prevent you from staving to death on the street because you drew the short straw in an economic model which isn't currently benefiting you like everyone else.
The fact that some people can actually somehow manage to exist on nothing more than benefits people see as a problem, they believe it's a sign that people on benefits receive too much and are too comfortable when in actual fact the people they have in mind actually have no ambition and have gotten used to being uncomfortable.
It's a weird state of affairs where they're jealous of their situation, even though they would never want to be in it.
People don't analyse their own bs they run primarily on blind prejudice and gut instinct and as people who work vastly outnumber people who don't guess who the government is going to pander to?
Politicians, ministers, civil servants and claimants know all of this stuff is a complete ineffectual waste of time. We don't do it because it helps us, or them, we do it to sate the petty morons who love to be outraged and are so unhappy with their own lives they need to make others miserable in order to feel better about themselves.
They need to know we suffer.
c) The powers that be have to be seen to be doing something and as is typical for 2014 activity is preferable to achievement. As long as you're seen to be doing something it doesn't matter that you're accomplishing nothing, at least back in the day politicians understood that doing nothing is better than doing anything.
Now they're just headless chickens running around making conflicting policy on the fly hoping to get The Sun to like them again.
A lot of people don't seem to understand these points, if you ever think about asking your advisor "What's the point?" then you don't get it and what's worse you're forcing them to justify policy they know is stupid and didn't make up.
A little empathy goes a long way, you can't be a massive pain in the !!!! to these people and then expect them to give you a break. My advisor was a pain in the !!!! to me for a long time because she thought I was messing her around with the universal jobmatch thing, which was making more work for her and taking up a load of time.
Now that she knows it's a problem on their end my appointments take 2 minutes, because I'm doing everything I should be doing and not creating work for her. As such when I was ill and had to miss an appointment she rescheduled it for later in the week rather than straight up sanctioning me which is what the OP would have probably gotten because he's creating problems for himself and everyone else.
Hopefully though he's read the above and can now have a less confrontational relationship with his advisor; it's a game, a stupid game nobody likes to play so do your bit and don't force others to play it longer than they have to.0 -
Great post!
Might give food for though to to some that regularly post on this forum.

What's wrong with using the standard firstname.lastname@notdodgysoundingwebsite.com?
Well firstly because at this point you don't get first name and last name, you get:
LeeSmith789387@wherever.co.uk
Which you won't want to use as a default address unless you're a complete moron.
Ideally you want to treat your email like your letterbox.
People may know your address but they need more to know that you live there. If you get a letter addressed to you at your home you know someone had to be told you live there and you'll open your letters because of that fact.
If your home address had your name rather than your door number how many letters do you think you would receive addressed to you? How much easier would it be to steal someones identity?
I would rather not give spammers and phishers even more help to infect me with viruses, trojans or steal my identity. Yet even I have the obligatory Name.Name@email.co.uk and need to open roughly 90% of emails I'd otherwise just delete on sight.
I wish to god people would get over these bs social conventions and just get back to being human beings. Why should I need to open myself up for identity theft because you are incapable of looking beyond your subjective perceptions?
It's one thing dealing with them it's another thing perpetuating them.
There's a bunch of these I hate, shoes, why? Who has ever gotten a blister wearing trainers? Sunglasses, I have photosensitive dry eyes and floaters which agitate me a great deal and sunglasses make these conditions far easier to deal with, but I need to be agitated and have my concentration messed with because you're not "meant" to wear sunglasses indoors.
I hate people, I swear to god.0
