What is "silly" about his email address?

For example, would "married_guy1986" be ok?

Or... if his email was "black_guy1986", would the job centre dare to advise him not to use it, in case an employer was racist?

To be clear, I think the OP shoots himself in the foot in 100 different ways, but in this one instance, I do think the job centre picking on his email address is wrong. That's if we have the full story and he is telling the truth, of course...

In a work context, it is silly, as are the other examples given. There is no reason why the OP cannot set up an email address using his proper name, unless of course he is not serious about finding a job ...

I would say, that an email addy, for professional purposes should be a little more main stream than 'black/gay/married guy' - and, what is the point anyway?

A personal mail addy is different, but you wouldn't use one mail for both purposes.

No one cares whether someone is gay/married/both, and being black would be apparent, I would have said.

I don't know why the OP is so obsessed with being gay.....:wall:

OP has a job now - he posted about it last week.

No he doesn't hence why I posted the link, he lied about getting a job! Makes me wonder what else he's lied about on here!

That thread is funny! ;) Some chap has emailed Stonewall about it, but fails to realise the issue is not one of homophobia, it is one of professionalism. Employers don't appreciate silly email addresses, I would expect the JCP to take the same action against anyone that cannot comply with a simple request such as using a sensible address.

I do wonder how gg intends to take legal action against the JCP, given that he can't even afford to pay his CT bill!

He probably thinks he can get legal aid being unemployable! Why does he have CT to pay when he's been claiming JSA?

Exactly, anyone who uses a stupid email address like the OP is clearly not wanting to find a job, and no I don't care about his sob stories!

council tax benefit changed to council tax support last april.
most councils now charge everyone of working age between 5 and 30% of the total council tax bill regardless of if they are receiving benefit or not

it is being set locally by eaxh individual council. areas like mine, that have a high level of exempt people ( pensioners) are havimg to charge a higher percentage to make up the 10% cut that has been handed to councils by the government

That's exactly it. It's not the fact that he mentions being gay that's the issue, it's that we're expected to choose something a bit more professional for professional correspondence (including job applications). I'd be just as wary of someone who put ilikeicelollies@gmail.com or emmerdale4eva@hotmail.com on their CV.

What's wrong with using the standard firstname.lastname@notdodgysoundingwebsite.com?

I assumed he was newly out. When I came out, I was pretty much, "I'm gay and I do gay things because I'm gay. Did I mention how gay I am? Because I'm really gay."

I'm still not exactly secretive about the fact, but I do manage to get through whole days without mentioning it.

I don't know as if his posts are true, he's been winding up the JC for months with his array of 'gay' T Shirts, which they point out (accurately) are not suitable attire for interviews.....

He reminds me of the 'only gay in the village', in a Little Britain, who persisted in making an issue of out being gay, looking for prejudice when there wasn't any, because no one actually cared lol

One of my grandsons has recently come out as gay, and it was a case of "oh, right, that's nice, now who wants a cup of tea?" Lol

No big deal nowadays - and I am old enough to remember the days when gays were stigmatised, but society has grown up, moved on, and accepts that all is 'normal' assuming it's between consenting adults....:T

I just wish 'gay guy' would get over himself, and accept that looking for work has nothing to do with sexuality! :wall:

i find it odd that a few gay people (gay_guy included) choose to make their sexuality their defining characteristic.
i am straight but dont feel the need to tell everyone i meet about it ;)
