  • :rotfl: Morning all

So the wedding of the year was this weekend! Dont even ask about how much I ended up spending. However, I had the money there and it was a once in a lifetime occasion.

So now that is over I need to start saving and paying off debt ASAP. We would also like a holiday at some point before April, hopefully somewhere warm! So tightening of belts all round.

Hope you are all well? x

  • I spent £175 on hotels and £50 on taxis etc. So that feels like loads! Plus I did have to spend loads on make up etc but I've kept it all. The dress was interesting, and everyone said I looked lovely so thats the main thing.

I am trying my best to stick to fast days again - my personal favourite way to shift some more pounds. xx

  • Very proud day for me as an IFA my 34 year old DH has got a pension! If he pays in 5% his company pays 10% so I said it was a must. Very important to get saving for retirement. Yes credit card needs to go but being able to live in retirement very important too! x

  • Morning all - how is everyone doing?

Today I bought my weeks worth of fruit and veg in A ** cheap German supermarket and it cost £10! amazing loving this place. Proper posh veg too, impressed. What are everyones thoughts on the various supermarkets? I dont mind going to a couple as they are all in the local area and doesnt cost anything in petrol. But my mum wont shop anywhere apart from Sburys or Wrose as they are the nearest and driving to the others cancels out the saving... thought provoking anyhow! xx

I hope everyone is well. So life inthe West Country is so fantastic but money seems to be spent all the time! I had to put more petrol in the car yesterday, another £20 and little things really add up. Still no gas/elec bill for new house yet even though agents told them 6 weeks ago we moved in. Hm, might need to call them. Npower are SO rubbish. I will be sitting down tomorrow and sorting all the bits and bobs that need doing like budgets etc.

    Hope everyone is well?

Yesterday I met the most amazing clients. Truly special. I hope that I can help them both, he used to work in the city of london, retired 30 years ago and can still talk in detail about where he worked and various roads and landmarks. Amazing! xx

    Hi Sparky, :hello:

Glad to hear you're enjoying the West Country! :)

Agree with you about the cheap supermarkets - although I prefer buying from independent shops, must admit to using A & L for many staples, and wouldn't be able to live within budget if buying CD's meat from the local butcher, for example.
That said, I like Wa!trose too; their fresh fish and bakery takes a lot of beating on quality. Tosco & Sainsbugs I avoid unless they've got a good deal on fuel.
But can see your Mum's point. Whichever supermarket is within walking distance is likely to be the cheapest: A) no fuel costs, and B) less temptation to splurge on 'specials' - one only buys what can be carried.

Good news that you're 'collecting' new clients - hope they stay with you for many years! :T

Waitrose is not the best choice for someone fighting off debt, however.

True they can't beat the German supermarkets on price, but [for example:] I recently found large jars of Marm!te cheaper in MrW than MrT, and the W essentials range offers much better quality than T's basic items with little price difference if sticking to a rigid list.

The best MSE option is probably to eschew supermarkets altogether, and get an allotment. Go vegetarian. Local markets or pound shops for non-food items.
