  • Dear all

Been a very buzy Sparky since I have been back but being a good MSE still! Have had 2 NSDs, not bad. I also left not so positive feedback on the sheet we were given by one of the hotels regarding the food (it was pretty rubbish!) saying that a Waitrose take away would have been nicer and a tenth of the price. So they rang today and refunded us £100 off our hotel bill! This has basically ‘paid’ the council tax this month which means we no longer a) have an overdraft on our joint account b) we came back with £250 odd (if you include this £100) which is massive!

I also, fingers crossed, should be getting a pretty reasonable bonus thing from work at the end of the month. As this is from shares its CGT so no income tax! It might be as much as £2,500 which would pay off my big credit card!! I would SO SO SO love to do this….

I do need to buy new work clothes and shoes though, I really struggle though. As a size 16, younger, professional lady its very hard to find reasonable tasteful outfits. Any suggestions? I do the normal charity shop, ebay, sales thing but just really cant seem to find nice things.

I’ve only got £398.78 to clear off catalogues, and I really feel that I can do this by the end of October…. That will be c£6,000 paid off since the start of the year.

By our first wedding anniversary I hope to reduce debt down to £6,000. I think this is possible…. Just got to make sure my favourite time of year, Christmas, isn’t too expensive although I have been trying to buy presents since August and not go over budget.

Work is strange at the moment, finding it a bit tough! Plus put on weight on holiday and feel bit blue about that too.

Positive about my debt free journey though x

  • Dear all

BIG DAY in the Sparky household... I have officially paid off my catalogues! and TOTAL debt down to £9,946.....

I had some money in savings and I just though there is no point in sitting there earning me 0% when I could really do with paying down more debt. I still have some ( for emergencies, not enough would like more but still). Just seems to make so much sense.

    On wards and upwards!

  • Congratulations on paying off the catalogues :T, well done!

Have you looked in Asda for clothes? You can get some decent things in there for not much money (I'm a size 16 too). I also like New Look. And don't underestimate plain outfits jazzed up with chunky necklaces/scarves etc! Xx

  • Morning all been a busy old time here... literally havent stopped!

Thanks for the suggestions re Asda and New Look. the trouble is I am in the city, and meeting these professionals, and I find these suits end up loosing shape and things very quickly.

I've tried ebaying the MArks and Spensers ones (normally at least £200) and fingers crossed with that!

As for the rest of being a good MSE - I have a confession. Yesterday I bought us both an advent calender from Marks and Sparks. £2.50 for one or £3.75 for both. a complete indulgence.

Hope you are all good X

  • Dear all

Bit of a blow today, the shares I was meant to be selling within my company are now showing as a loss. However, I am likely to get some sort of bonus so every little counts.

I also really need to think about getting a car, my in laws are 100's of miles away and their parents are all in their 90's and in pretty bad shape. Its very difficult to get there without car (Cornwell is sadly not well connected without your own transport) but equally we live in zone 1 in london so would rarely use it unless for a long trip!?!?

I am hoping to put it off a little while longer, at least until I get my next pay rise and or bonus. We shall see.

Anyhow, hope you are all good! So far only had 3 NSD in Oct, hope this will improve!! x

  • Well yesterday was a real treat we got our letters regarding bonuses and I was shocked!! I got the most out of everyone!! £2,000 BEFORE tax! I am so happy :)

I am now going to spend my lunch time working out which debt to pay off first.... I am so happy to be reducing my crediters as well as overall debts.

Also, DH finally, after 18 is having his PPI claim reviewed by the Ombusman on the 7th November or so his letter says. Nationwide sold him PPI when he was only a temp and he never even thought about it. I think the payout should be c£4,000 so that would be a amazing!!

Golly I feel so lucky on this debt free journey, really have come into some advantageous situations.

Car debate is raging on - DH is convinced its a necessity I am now thinking about paying everything off then saving for a car!! We shall see....

    Hi Sparky, :hello:

Yay and :j :j :j to bonus - well done, dear girl! :D

Just had a look on The Bay - crikey you're right, there are a few M&S bargains on there! Good luck with your bidding, it would be a worthy use of part of your bonus. :)

As for a car, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to hire one for trips 'home'? (She said, remembering how much £££ DH got for renting out the parking space at his old flat!).
