I had an email from Gaier Software Support saying the MSN quotes server is shutting down for ever on the 22nd December, so his software will not have access to live quotes from that date.
He is working on a version that will use another source,
Just in case you wondered why it why it stops0 -
Interesting to see where he gets his information from. I created my own application that downloads fund and share prices (that I require), originally from FT.com but they changed their source code which meant I cannot now read the prices from them. Currently I am using another site (which I won't mention on here just so I can continue to download the information) and its working fine for now.0

Can anyone recommend another package for those of us without MS Money. Don't mind paying a reasonable price, up to £50 maybe. More interested in the automatic portfolio stock and fund updates with maybe some graphing?
Has anyone tried the Daily Mail 'This is Money' Portfolio service?0 -

MS Money (free download of last version) plus importing quotes from FT.com (also free) is still the best way of tracking home finances AND investments (including capital gains tax etc).0 -
The Morningstar Portfolio tool is very good at tracking, it allows sells, buys & dividends whereas the Trustnet one does not, otherwise the Trustnet one is is also very good. The London Stock Exchange portfolio tool is also very good as it links to your holdings latest reports etc. For day to day use I would suggest the Morningstar option first.
If unable to use an online tool, then I would suggest using MS Money and manually updating, Money is still the best offline portfolio software for general use afaik.

That is the US version and not compatible with old UK data. See here for the final UK version. It works on Windows 7 and 8. I dont have access to 8.1.0 -
Thanks for the info and the links, I'll have a play when I get some time. Got a few more important things on my mind for a bit.0

Thanks Linton, one quick question - does this version handle investment accounts and reports. I thought the UK version was the basic package whilst the sunset version was the fuller product, may be wrong about that though as I am still using MS Money 2000 along with Morningstar :-)0 -

It is Money 2005, specifically version 14.0.120.1105 with copyright date 2004. It is the UK version and it can handle investment accounts and reports.
For anyone using Gaier Software's MSMoneyQuotes, the details behind MSN's quote service withdrawal are here:

The next link details how to use MSMoneyQuotes to update prices from an FT.com portfolio export:

This works better than the HLEquotes method that some of us may have used previously. It has a minor problem extracting the symbols for Vanguard and iShares ETFs.0
