My Microsoft Money 2003 has stopped getting prices online when I do an update. It reports 'your call was successful' but there are no new prices. It hasn't worked for about a week or two. I can't find anything on the web about it. Has anyone else got this problem?

MS stopped supporting Money a few years ago and at that time also released an update that stopped price downloads working. However if you missed that update, or have re-installed from the disk, price downloads have continued to work. Until now it would seem, unless there is some other possibly temporary problem.
There are various work rounds. The one I use is described here. It works by picking up an export file generated from a ft.com portfolio. The whole process works extremely well for me, but does require a bit of effort to get working if you have a large number of investments. It actually works better than the original as ft.com handles pension funds that werent available from the MS download.0 -
it has happened several times in the past, likely it will restart eventually, unless as Linton says they have finally turned it off0

Just worked OK for me - but has been intermittent for quite a while.0

I'm using Ms Money 2001, shareprices are still coming though ok, currency are also coming through but for me the Euro rate has been wrong for years.
I'm aware that at some point the share feed will disappear but as yet have not found an alternative for my needs.
My ideal replacement would be:-
*A similar account look to MS Money
*Can be setup easily to be UK focused
*Can easily integrate share prices for sources like yahoo, google through a plugin design (if one feed goes down then there's still a backup)
*Has currency price feed
*Plugin for special accounts, for example, my employer each year offers a share save scheme, the share price is in euros, we pay in pounds, the terms can be complicated with income tax, capital gains etc.. to take into account. The constants in all this are the share price, currency rate, no of shares, brought price and brought at currency rate. With a plugin I'd see as passing inputs from the application/share feed, entering a calculation to workout the value and present it as an account. The plugin account could be setup by the user and exported to be shared with other users
*import/export of plugins
I tried GnuCash but didn't like the layout, came across as too American and I couldn't get the stock interface working

At the moment I'm also using Excel as a backup with the smf_addin plugin to get the share prices, but would love to use a more automated open source solution

Microsoft has made the 2005 UK addition available for free with the elements that check their servers taken out so they can remove themselves from their support commitments - I've just tried it now and it does still download the share prices and the euro exchange look correct as well

Thanks for all your replies.
I might try reinstalling it and make sure I only choose *price* updates.
I just ran it again and got this message:
"Expiry Notice
The following information applies to feature expiries which occurred 568 days ago, on 01/02/2011.
One or more Microsoft Money features have expired. Please update your file online for more information."
And when I went to the portfolio section, the price update option had gone.0 -
I'm using Money 2002, last updated in May 2007 and not yet affected by Microsoft's removal of the quotes function. At the moment I'm getting updates for UK share prices but not for fund prices. Fund prices seem to have stopped working on August 8th. It seems that both MSMoney and MSN's investing pages get their prices from the same source, and occasionally that source stops working. For example go to http://uk.moneycentral.msn.com/investor/quotes/quotes.aspx?symbol=058523
You'll see on that page the date when it was last updated. If that date is not within the last day or three then the page has stopped updating. Click the link at the bottom of the page to report an error. I usually copy/paste the URL and write "page has not updated since dd/mm/yy, it should update daily" That usually gets it fixed within a few days. I don't make any reference to MSMoney because I know they won't support it.
The URL above links to the price of one specific fund. Please try similar URLs for other funds and put in an error report. The more people report the error, the sooner they'll fix it.0 -
Thanks again, everyone.
1. I didn't know Money 2005 was free to download. I've installed it and the price update option's come back (as I said, it had completely vanished from my Money 2003).
2. I'm after fund prices, not share prices, and as mentioned above, these seem to have stopped on the MSN site on 8 August. I've reported an error. It's not clear if this is a temporary problem, or if they've stopped doing funds completely. The hard-to-find link to the fund finder section is: http://uk.moneycentral.msn.com/investor/finder/mffinder.aspx0 -
Thanks for the pointer to the 2005 version download, I am using 2000 at the moment and will have a play to see if there's anything new in there and, crucially, whether I can import the 2000 data. Not bothered about on-line price updates as I've never used that part.
Oh, except it says "Page not found" and won't continue for me.0 -

I have tried to copy data from Money2002 to a later version, without success. If your current version does all you want I should stick with it.
"If it ain't broke..."
Edit: I've now successfully converted to Money 20050 -

Morningstar tracks prices like this but I dont think you can export or import unless you pay for the service, otherwise its quite easy to use0
