I am totally convinced that this sort of first approach is the reason for many of the consumer "problems" reported on MSE.................0 -
Never had a problem with Argos. Always got a refund when I wanted it.Iva started Dec 2018.0

It depends entirely on the manufacturer and product. I had a Canon camera sent away for repair recently. From what I could see, entering the product code on their returns system brought up the process for that product.0 -
Unless the camera is an SLR it's probably going to cost more to fix it than replace it, so I imagine Argos will replace it regardless of what their policy is.0

I didn't say ALL - I said the vast majority...............
My last two purchases from Argos, a kettle and a microwave are certainly not cost effective to repair. The kettle would be impossible to repair.0 -
It was a DSLR not a cheap digital camera.
I have tried calling the phone number listed on the website and was given the same jibberish about a repair being policy etc etc0 -

With the attitude that you are showing, I'm not surprised that they are not helping as much as they can.
It is not jibberish. It is their policy and it is perfectly acceptable under the Sale of goods act to have this policy.0 -

Yes. Argos offer a 30-day refund or replacement guarantee and after that the manufacturer's guarantee takes over and it's that guarantee which dictates whether a repair or replacement or replacement as new will be given.
No-one here can comment on the law or what Argos' policy is or anything else without referring to that guarantee. If that guarantee says replacement as new then it is ... er ... replaced as new although Argos may not necessarily be responsible for it. It all depends on what the guarantee says.0 -

That is not right.
A manufacturer's guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.
Your statutory rights are with whoever sold the goods to you... in this case Argos.No-one here can comment on the law or what Argos' policy is or anything else without referring to that guarantee. As I said above, "a manufacturer's guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights".
No manufacturer's guarantee or retailer's policy can remove a consumer's rights under the Sale of Goods Act or any other statute.
Can I suggest you have a read of MSE's Consumer Rights guide for more detail.0
