Neighbours parking on drive and across drive.

  • A bollard like that should do the trick and they are a pretty reasonable price - should think it could be done (including any workman labour your LL had to pay for) for no more than £100.

The point to make, when requesting this from your LL, is to point out that its not just the current tenant (ie yourself) that is being affected by this neighbour. Future tenants will also be affected and therefore none of his tenants will "get what they paid for" until this selfish neighbour is gone one way or another (which could be some time yet).

Having your own guaranteed parking space must be worth a bit extra on the rent and no tenant should be paying that proportion of the rent attributable to having their own parking space unless they actually are iyswim.

(Errr...I don't suggest withholding an appropriate part of the rent until the LL deals with it. Carry on paying rent as normal, but point the fact out to the landlord as to exactly what you are paying for and therefore expect to get).

Have you asked your landlord if he'll write to the neighbours, explaining that the drive is his property and is rented out to you? We had a problem with someone parking in our allocated space in a private car park. We asked the freeholders to write a letter on headed paper that we could put on the windscreen and that worked - they were happy to do that as this bloke was nicking their spaces too. Ultimately it's to your landlord's detriment if he has unhappy tenants so maybe he can help?

From what OP has posted I doubt the neighbours will take any notice of a letter. In fact, I doubt they would bother to read it.

Shouldn't that be 'I doubt they could even read it' ;)

    Quite possibly so.

However, its always worth a punt from a higher authority (in this case the landlord).

I would say though that the main point of the letter is in order to prove that OP/his landlord have made all reasonable attempts to solve the matter and are normal/law-abiding people (unlike the neighbour concerned).;)

The idiot parking in our space wrote something very rude on the back of the letter ... but he did stop parking there. I think it's always worth a shot at getting someone higher up involved. The OP mentioned somewhere that the neighbours think that as the OP is not the owner they can park there. If the owner tells them where to get off it might help.

I have had contact with the landlord. He does not want to know.

I like the suggestions and will try to put some recycling in the way.

    Faith.

Thought of you yesterday Faith, I had a call from one of my customers (work in car hire), they have a 72 year old man want to rent a car, despite him not having a licence, to park the car outside his house to stop a neighbour parking a van there! I suggested a skip would be cheaper, but he wants something nicer looking! Car bound to be damaged!

    Tell me this wasn't you???

Just come across this thread and thought I would share my parents story about their drive way, Calma bit their neighbour in the bum when they were taking the pi$$ lol

My parents live in a really small village with only one main road running through it which is quite narrow. About two years after moving in they removed a load of trees from around the property and this also made the entrance to our drive way much wider. The neighbours twigged on and started using the entrance to our drive way as a turning point rather than driving down to the end of the road to exit the village as there is nowhere really to turn on the main road.

My parents were quite reasonable, never said anything for months as it never blocked there access and never damaged their cars as the drive way is quite long and their cars were set quite far back from the entrance, it never harm anyone so they never said anything.

It did however become an issue with one family after a few month when they were using the drive as turning point at all hours in the morning, 2-3am and the headlights were shining in my parents’ bedroom window waking them up, when there young son passed his test he would use the drive to turn and not only have his headlights on but also his gangster rap music on full blast waking them up at all hours this became a common occurrence most weekends.

After months of asking the family not to use the drive to turn and them not listening and being woken up my parents had enough. They installed a gate across the drive entrance, metal one about waist high, the idiot of a son from the culprit family tried to turn in the drive in the early hours one morning and drove straight into the gate…. Haha…weather he didn’t realise they had put it up or he forgot well never know but his car came off much worse than the gate, all the front headlights and bumper were damaged. Safe to say no one uses the drive to turn now…least the gate served its purpose lol

Hope this story eases your pain Mr Faith!!

That has really made me smile.

I would say that I am not the OAP looking for a skip. Would be nice to be able to though.

The gate really has given me a smile on my face.

I have tried a new approach to talk to the neighbours. It appears that the landlord had some form of "Friendship" with one of the ladys over the way. This apparently caused a load of problems for him.

I gather that the vendetta over the drive is against him. I have had several bottles of wine with a few of the neighbours and now think I have got to the bottom of the original issue. I still get people parking in the wrong place but am glad it is not me.

I have taken to putting the landlords address on the window of each car asking them to contact him to resolve any complaints.

    Faith
