I think you need to contact the Company you bought it from, and the fitter, and get a professional repair undertaken. At this stage the carpet is so new it should not show (think new turves knitting together in the garden). You may well also be insured - check if you have accidental damage. I know it sounds like a faff but from what I read, you just know you won't be happy unless you cannot see it any more. Did you keep any off-cuts?
Don't write yourself off for DIY - these things happen to us all. Our best examples remain:
1. DH stuck the new soles of his work shoes on the oak dining room table and used too much glue but no newspaper underneath. The glue seeped out and took the finish back to bare wood - necessitating french polishing the whole table
2. We finished flooring the new nursery at our last but one house at 00.45 on Sunday night, only for me to brush the tin of enamel paint off the top of the radiator as I removed some of the tools. Yep, it burst open and spread oil-based paint over the pristine varnished cork floor (it was 25 years ago so forgive the style choice!). DH spent three hours clearing it up before bed, and then got up at 06.00 and travelled to Germany to work!
3. We fitted a replacement light fitting with GU10 bulbs on both sides to our present dining room main beam (think 6'6" ceiling in 400 year old thatched cottage). One of the old-style bulbs was left adjusted too close to the intersection beam and our Son alerted us 45 minutes later that the room was full of smoke. The beam was smoking and it took 2 hours of sponging and damping down to get the heat out of the old beam - we were convinced it was on fire inside the beam and the scotch mark remains to this day (another layer of "character"!).
I always get cross, but then get practical!
Good luck with it

Getting new carpet fitted isn't an option at this point. I've built heavy bookcases onto the wall and it would be a day's work to remove them. Luckily it's horizontal lines, they're relatively narrow, so in less than bright light it just looks like indentations in the (deep) pile. The marks are only for about 1/3? of the pile depth, so will try sanding/giving them a wee shave with a disposable razor. Just annoyed.0

Sympathies - that's a beggar, I'm not surprised you're annoyed.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Oh dear to the carpet, these things are easy done and hard to rectifyA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
