Hi Mr E, have you listened to The Sixteen by any chance?
I wasn't listening to them this morning, but I have at all. They're playing in Edinburgh this month, I think I'll check and see whether we can fit them in to our busy June schedule0 -
This Sunday sleep thing is getting daft. After a somewhat wan Saturday, I got my productive on yesterday and did *everything* (with the exception of the HB bottling). I also ran 8.75 miles and was a nackered, bleeding wreck by the end of it. Then wound down with some lovely classical music and still failed to get more than a few hours. The only difference between previous Sundays and last Sunday was the fact that I don't feel grumpy about the lack of sleep, just sleepy.
I think that it may be time for me to dump the Spanish bank. I wanted to transfer another £500 into our S&S ISA this morning, but found myself thinking 'I'll need to transfer it from TeaSB, I need to keep £3k in the Spanish bank to keep the 3% interest'. TeaSB pay 4%, so I'm clearly thinking about this all wrong. We no longer have a mortgage with them and I think that we're making about £1/mth from DD cashback after the £2 fee.
So, are any banks offering decent switching offers at present? I'd consider anyone bar FD (already switched to them), H@lifax (existing account) and Co-0p (crap bank in my experience).
I also need to look at switching our boiler cover. We're currently with a SSE group company, which rankles after the switch issues. Does anybody have any experience of using H0meserve? Other than newspaper articles about mis-selling, I couldn't say anything about them.
To do today:- [STRIKE]Money to pots[/STRIKE]
- [STRIKE]Free spin offer [/STRIKE](60p, thanks for nowt!)
- [STRIKE]Pay in £ coins[/STRIKE]
- [STRIKE]Post eB@y item[/STRIKE]
- Investigate new boiler cover
- Investigate possible switches
- Email possible job #3, they're advertising a job, but haven't posted the job description or application form on their website!

I've used Homeserve for washing machine cover.
It did what it said on the tin - when the washing machine went wrong I phoned them and an engineer came out in a timely fashion. Nothing adverse at all really. But nothing wildly brilliant either.
We have our boiler cover with a local Kent and Sussex company. They are well established and respected locally. They fitted the boiler in 2009, and we took up their cover, as it was cheaper than British Gas. Five years later, it's still the same price, so I think we are getting a good deal.
If we weren't with them, I don't know who we'd be with. But I think it's one of the essentials, as you get the annual service and safety check.
Good luck with the ongoing job searchEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks Goldie. I looked at their policies last night, but it's swings and roundabouts.
Current policy: £11.40/mth, free annual service, £50 excess
Their policy: £2/mth year 1/£c. £14/mth year 2 onwards, free annual service year 1, £95 excess, suggested that annual service was not free in year 2 onwards
Take the new policy as a gamble and cancel after year 1, going back to current supplier if needed? With cashback, it would basically be £9 for a year with a £95 excess. That would save c. £85.
I didn't sleep again last night, we have an appointment at the hospital that I have been dreading today. Hopefully this will let us draw a line under our recent tragedy- Money to pots

Hospital trip went fairly well, the consultant we spoke to had definite ideas for ways to improve our chances next time. That Mrs E is a very intelligent and resilient woman0

Glad hospital went well and positive ideas were shared.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Good to hear it.
