Can't believe I'm giving parenting advice. :rotfl: I'm going to agree about the Sainsburys children's clothes, there's certainly nothing wrong with them. Personally, I was reluctant to buy something for my son that I wouldn't wear myselfA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I wouldn't budget for baby clothes either.
Since there is little point in selling them on and they get so little wear you will probably find friends pass on bundles to you.
At my last school we had large bags of babygros and vests that did the rounds, with a few added and a few chucked away each time.
Also on the plastic crap front, Squirrel has a great idea. Having just dealt with seas of plastic crap I realise it was actually making me feel overwhelmed and a bit depressed.0 -
I agree with the comments about the neighbours.
Fortunately we are detached, so most of the time it is quiet.
But on both sides they are retired.
On one side the man likes to work on his classic cars, so he's always out on his driveway and on the other side the man is a bit nosy, and is always out in the front garden, looking at what's going on.
So it makes it difficult for us to have a quiet bit of gardening in the front, without an audienceEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I don't buy toys for my grandchildren, just little bits and bobs like torches, stationery, books and DVDs. Things they will actually use for a bit and which can be thrown out afterwards. On birthdays and Christmas we go out for expensive treats instead. When they were babies I bought them premium bonds so they stand a chance of a win. I just can't bear handing over money for over marketed tat.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Excellent, the parenting advice is rumbling on in my absence :T
Mrs E has now seen the baby moving, suffice to say we're both excited.
Despite everyone's assertions to the contrary, we won't be inheriting any clothing from friends or family. We appear to be stuck in a demographic maelstrom where everyone does everything at the same time. Currently my brother's wife, my sister, our female best friend and another friend are all expecting children! In addition to this, another one of my brother's is currently raising a toddler.
Our cloth nappies arrived during the week and they are rather adorable. The quality looks to be very good, they are well made. Now all we need is baby furniture (soon to be resolved) a bath, baby toiletries and the basic sundries (cotton wool, sensitive washing powder etc.) We are getting there. 12 weeks to go
All the housework was done on Friday and I even managed to pick up bathroom cleaning duties from Mrs E.
Today has been a lot more chilled out. We watched both rugby matches (the less said about Scotland, the better), chatted and I had a lot of MB offers on the go. Another £50+ day, I am feeling rather minted :j On the treat side of the equation, I have succumbed to Mrs E's request to try Naow TV. I can't really be bothered with it myself, but we got a 6 months package for £35, which doesn't seem too steep.
Tomorrow will see me up to my elbows in fish poop as I clean out the filter, this is no doubt good practice for fatherhood? Also planning a Sunday roast, managed to pick up a delicious beef joint in L1dl this morning.
Take care all, hope you're finding some time to relax.0 -
Hope you are too, Ed.
Have you seen Season 3 of Falling Skies yet? Where Noah Wyle is changing a baby's nappy and chatting away to the baby? Its very cute2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Chilling watching a game of Rugby is lovely but becomes not so chilled when you are screaming at the TV and jumping up and down, don't you think? :rotfl:
Scotland fought well, it was an unfortunate end to a fantastic game for them.
My priority viewing was on the 5 oclock match though, which didn't disappoint :TI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards.
