    I've been Money Tipped!
I was in Morries yesterday and the "price-cuts" along with all the promotional signages were very noticeable.
How long will it last?? Or will the new lower prices be permanent?? We'll see!!
Still the odd "hype" promotion, especially in the crisp/snacks aisle.
Kettle crisps should not be over £2 per pack - £2 is the price for a very large bag of potatoes (Farmfood's all the time)!!
    Mini Cheddars the same etc.
But, they are all at it and not aimed at Morries.

I hope they do end the BOGOF, B1G2F offers and use low single prices instead. This should help single customers and those on a low income and might even entice them into the shop.

It was noted above that the Morries meat wasn't very good. I find it fine and have had some great meat offers over the last few months. Chickens, pork belly, meatballs etc - all very good and cheap.

Must have a moan though. :D
I agree with the comments re Morries s/scan tills and even had an issue yesterday!! Must be the worst of the BIG 4. I find Sainsbury's the best, followed by Tesco. Then Asda and finally Morries. I do feel sorry for the assistant operating at the s/scan till, they do work their socks off correcting all the errors.

I agree, as I've said here before, I was actually persuaded to try Morrison's meat by all the positive comments on this forum a year or so ago. I was sceptical but they were right.

That a commenter actually singles Morrison's out for the opposite reminds me how strange some people's tastes can be.

Agreed about the BOGOFs etc, too and while they're at it, the supermarkets can ditch their bogus promises that a basket of goods they sell is cheaper than it would be somewhere else. It's just codswallop.

This is never going to happen. Every supermarket does this - it has saved M&S. It is creeping into Lidl.

Other than an odd one-off supermarkets are never going to return to single unit pricing because their statistics do not lie. They sell more ready meals, sausages, fruit juice or whatever this way. Other than a cucumber or a few others it is not coming back.

Edit: I'm talking more about the systemic multibuys to get a trivial to modest amount off rather than bogofs. The 'genuine' bogofs are not a problem even for single people.

But if smiling, talkative staff is what you're after (and you don't mind being skinned alive by their prices) Sainsbury's is the place to go. It's all a little Stepford Wives, though - you get the feeling they are doing it by rote and that the smiles are held-on with superglue.

I'm not bothered about smiling talkative staff but I do expect a basic level of politeness. Something which seems beyond some of the staff in my local Morrisons. I can't really comment on Sainsbury as I haven't shopped there for a while.

Some BOGOFs in the produce are mix n match - so can get a pineapple and some premium range cherry tomatoes. But many customers tend to buy two pineapples. Same goes for 3 for£10 meat. See so many customers buying THREE whole chickens when it's designed for meat for meals in the week - mince for spag bol, whole chicken for Sunday roast and chicken breasts for a stir fry. Most supermarkets call this mix n match. Many customers are not mixing and therefore throwing more stuff than if they bought different items in the deals. If you are unsure if a deal is going to work, ask the checkout operator and they will tell you if it's going to work.

I don't understand why many customers are buying the same things in multi buys when they can buy numerous items in the offer.

I've got promotional spend coupons - £8.00 off £40 spend for Sainsburys - so looks like I'll be going there for awhile.
Though, I don't find the Price Match very good - I don't buy branded goods unless they're on offer !

The best thing about Morrisons is their Caf! - even visited one while on holiday last year.
Their 'ready meals' can be too high in salt!
Can't say I find a problem with the staff at supermarkets - apart from the 'odd' one.
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

Mix 'n' match makes things worse and more vile, not better. It decreases the number of lines a decent person can buy and increases the power of the computer.

But you and 99% of shoppers simply do not care.

    Errrrr, what?

    Nada, you've lost me.
  • Some things at Morrisons have come down in price to match Aldi. Noticeably fresh veg and some fruit (eg. Iceberg Lettuce now 49p were £1, Spring Onions similar and packs of 3 peppers were £1-79 now at 99p). Other items just haven't changed despite what the marketing hype states and others have increased. I always buy Tilda basmati rice but buy the large bags. The last time I bought one it was £9-99 - bought another this weekend and it was £12-49 25% increase. May be down to the general price of rice but even so that is a big increase.
The one big thing I do notice is that my weekly shop bill has actually stabilised this year whereas a couple of years ago it was increasing week by week.
I tried Aldi and don't particularly like it but do use it for things like washing powder. I found their fruit and veg to be pretty poor and would go off pretty quickly.

Nice help from Morrison staff the other day, wanted some pasta 29p for 500g but lorry just in not yet unloaded. Someone filled up the shelf special, appreciated.
They still have the unwashed taters at £3.49, and as the last chitted quickly, this time have mashed up and frozen a few blocks.Freezer drawer now stacked like a filing cabinet.
