Morrisons Price War Begins?

From the article,
"Morrisons has been losing out to the discounters on a bigger scale than any of its rivals, although the issue of how to deal with the continued growth of Aldi and Lidl is one that has all of the big supermarkets scratching their heads."
Why are they scratching their heads? It's simple, stop ripping us off and stop all your stupid cloak and dagger pricing! Morons.0 -
Here is a brilliant example to all the big supermarkets.
Last week I noticed the cow and gate baby milk was 50p cheaper in Sainsbury's. So I walked, with a double buggy, in the cold and rain, four miles to get it and stock up.
However, when I got there it was the exact same price as everywhere else. When I queried it I was told it was because it was a mid sized store and not a big supermarket, so the discount didn't apply.
When asked if I still wanted the milk I told the fella I didn't, and that I would walk a further three miles to Asda to get it instead. The perplexed bloke told me that it would be the same price at Asda, to which I replied, "it might well be. But they didn't lie about it did they?!"
So off I went. I was tired, hungry, wet and cold (although my babies were fine. Don't worry, they stayed snug and were fed when needed). But I felt good because I made a stand. A small one, but still a signal to them that shoppers these days are becoming less tolerant of being made fools of.
Stop with the smoke and mirrors. We've all had enough!0 -
Morrisons have always had pretty good special offers, although IMO a lot of the deals have been on junk like biscuits, pop, sweets, crisps and fancy yoghurts/desserts: The sort of thing you'll buy more of if it's discounted but probably avoid at full price. However one of my regular buys, Warburton's Toastie loaf, is 45p more at Morrisons than Asda which is a similar distance away - other basics seem to similarly cheaper at other stores too.
Hopefully these new cheaper prices will be on the stuff you actually need to buy rather than on snack foods you can do without.0 -
I'm waiting for the next Morries "Buy One Get 2 Free" offer.
Will they dare?
Alikay - yes, the offers need to be on "proper food", rather than biscuits and crisp type of offers.
To be fair, Morries have had some good offers of late on fruit and veg, a bit like the Aldi "Super 6" and right now the current offers on the buy 3 for £1.50 items (from 6 offered) are excellent. You are "forced" to buy at least 3 or multiples of 3 items to get the lowest price, but not a major issue. The pineapple and oranges bought this week were excellent (just added a pack of onions to make it 3 and even got 20p cashback from one of the cashback shopping apps!). Some of the meat offers have been good also and I've been grabbing some, but won't do a full shop there. I don't do a full shop anywhere though and haven't for ages. Just top up and grab the bargains (from the best offers) and "whoopsied" stuff.

I think that's the last of those type of offers from Morrisons for the time being.0 -

Why single out Sainsburys ?
Sainsburys are no different than any other supermarket in this respect. Different supermarkets within the same chain always sell at different prices , dependng on size/location/ what they think they will get away with.0 -
Morrisons meat is dreadful, and until they source better produce they can keep their 'bargains'!
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
If it had been any of the other stores I would have done the exact same thing.
My 'stand' wasn't against Sainsbury's, but all of them. I know they all do the exact same thing.
But it so happened that on that particular day, the store that had the offer on and that I had trekked to, was Sainsbury's. So on that day, they got my two fingers!
Would it make you happier if from now on we didn't mention specific supermarkets, and just referred to them as 'A' supermarket? I'm not bothered, I'll name and shame. But what would you prefer?0 -
My word, you're a cynical lot. I went to Morrisons to pick up a few bits n pieces last night, unaware they had even reduced prices, so while I was there I decided to have a browse. I ended up with a full basket, including many 'staples' which had been reduced by 20p-40p per item (not just a pathetic 1p as some supermarkets often do when boasting of 'big reductions in-store'). Plus my discount card gave me an extra 10% off the whole shop, which included some very decent bargains (reductions) I'd also picked up along the way.
I don't know about Aldi / Lidl as we don't have one within 20 miles, but compared to the 'Big 3' I'd say Morrisons has made a pretty strong move.
I'm just a bit surprised that everyone on here seems to be having a go at them without even bothering to check out what they've actually done....0 -
Your original post says that Asda dosnt lie about their prices but Sainsburys does. - But you are know saying you know that they all do the same thing
OMG. On the day I went to Sainsbury's, I had a look on Mysupermarket to see what was cheapest and where. On the day in question they were all exactly the same for baby milk except for Sainsbury's, which was 10 Bob cheaper. But when I got there..............
You know what? Don't worry about it. It's a bank holiday weekend, let's drink! :beer:0
