Thoughts? Will this make you consider shopping at morrisons?
http://www.morrisons.com - You can see what sort of price cuts have been implemented, I don't work for the company btw. Just curious on if this will make people think twice or not.
If sales don't pick up for morrisons then there's only one way they will go...
Morrisons has raised the prospect of an all-out supermarket price war with cuts on over a thousand of its products.
The company, which is one of the "big four" UK supermarkets, has been fighting to win back shoppers after months of falling sales.
It says prices on everyday essentials will now be 17% cheaper, on average.

From their website,
"This is the start of a new cheaper Morrisons.
From today, we've cut the prices on over a thousand of your favourite products. Not temporary reductions or supermarket smoke and mirrors, these are new every day low prices on the things you buy every week. So you’ll notice the difference with every shop.
And although we’re cutting prices, we’re not cutting corners.
You'll still get award-winning meat and fish, still get trained butchers and bakers, still get the best of fresh on Market Street and still get friendly Morrisons service.
Look out for the yellow markers when you shop in store and online at morrisons.com.
If it says I'm cheaper you know it's staying cheaper."
Or in other words, we've been ripping you off for years, you've deserted us, so now we're saying sorry by lowering our prices 'permanently'. (Well, for a while anyway. And then we'll sneakily start putting them all back up again. And In the meantime we've increased the price of the stuff that we haven't advertised in our big new campaign).
Sorry Mr. Morrison, I'm not buying it. And I'm not buying your goods either.0 -
Well, in these glum days of constantly shrinking products, ANY price decreases have to be a good thing, surely?
I'll be popping in to have a look later as I'm 2 mins drive away from a branch.
Doubt there's much to keep me out of Aldi but good news for those that, for one reason or another, only have access to Morrison's as their main supermarket.0 -
One of the most telling passages from the BBC story is :
"
Some 1,200 products are included on the list of items to be discounted, around 35-40% of which are key branded goods.
But it is clear that on some of those products, Morrisons is simply playing catch up.
For instance, the supermarket says it is cutting the price of a pack of Huggies Pure baby wipes to £1 - a drop of 60%.
But you can already buy the same product for £1 at Asda and Tesco, while Sainsbury's offers two packs for two pounds.
The real battleground is on own brand items, like bread, milk and fresh produce.

Morrisons aren't on their own i think all supermarkets do it, when they advertise any of these price cuts or BogOff offers they're rarely on fresh or healthy foods. It's the junk food which is already overpriced for what it is,Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Morrisons clearly holding on to the delusional hope that we are all still just 'dumb' customers.0

Yes some of the price cuts are just playing catch up on what the other supermarkets have been charging for months. Shows you how much morrisons have been ripping people off0 -
Just the same with the cat/Dog foodstuffs !
" It`s Cheaper " they tell us , yeah ! and it`s also smaller ):
Give us some credit for having a brain !!A Bast**d I May Be ! I Was Born One !

As long as they keep on mis-leading their customers with their fictitious wine "offers", I will always believe that.
"You can only con some of your customers, some of the time."
What they are putting out in the press now, is basically to try and bring back lost customers to return to their stores.
One local Morries has suffered enormously since a new Aldi opened and the staff openly admit how much quieter it has been. The new Aldi is indeed "buzzing" and hitting both Morries and the nearby Asda.
But, I can pick up lots of reduced items when wanted.
I'm not loyal to any supermarket and simply take the offers that suit myself. I'm lucky though and have access to them all really apart from Waitrose.

I agree with the comments here that Morrisons appears to have no respect for its customers, assuming that if they tell us that "things are cheaper" then we will simply believe them.
Today, when I looked for further info on this story on their website, it simply says there will be more details soon. As others have noticed Morrisons is just coming into price line with other supermarkets. Of course once they appeared on Mysupermarket, it was so clear how expensive they have become in comparison to the others.
So, no I don't believe that Morrisons will suddenly become the wonder store where all prices are unbelievably low. I think until the CEO leaves, the stores will continue to be run down and staff reduced - as one store manager told me at the beginning of the weekDon't get it perfect - Get it goingBetter Than Before0 -
Morrisons was my place of choice but now find both Lidl and Aldi better on distance, convenience and price. Still shop for some brands though - especially Diet Coke!
So I checked the new prices - 8 pack Diet Coke was £4.39 (over 50p per can!), now 33p per can. But you can buy multipacks today at 25p per can at other supermarkets.
How can they advertise such a high price to start from? Who buys multipack Diet Coke for 55p per can? I'd give Morrisons another chance but it's 'smoke and mirrors' price cuts like this that still put me off.0
