Hello, and welcome Bloke shopper. Or should that be, MR. MORRISON?

    Hmmmm ;)

Its all well and good reducing their prices but they must be the worst supermarket for actually having things in stock. Its probably because they don't have a live stock system, someone has to go round and order more of things.

All the other supermarkets order based on the number of sales through the tills, with a bit of manual ordering on top. They did say on the news that Morrisons were going to go to a sales based system but not until 2017.

Ha! I can assure you that I have no connection to the aforementioned supermarket chain. In fact, until they opened a store nearby just before Christmas, I had only ever visited 1 branch of Morrisons in my life, and that was a loooong time ago when Mrs Bloke Shopper lived in the North.

I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about and why people get so annoyed if some people prefer to shop at one supermarket over another? I'll admit I do shop at morrisons but that was only after a few bad experiences at tescos.
I do like Aldi but find their fruit does tend to go off quicker and the one annoying thing for me is you can't pay via credit card but it doesn't stop me visiting for certain things.
I think what im trying to say is some people will shop for convenience and some shop for best price etc there is no point getting annoyed if it's someone's choice :o

It's not a "delusional hope", it's a fact. Most people are "dumb" when it comes to shopping in supermarkets.

Supermarkets rely on 'sleep walking' shoppers and those, esp the elderly that buy the same stuff - foodwise each week. So Monday it's pork chops. Tuesday - tuna salad etc.

About 18-24 months ago, the Morrisons nearest to me had 2 basket tills and 4 self scans.

Now in the same area, they have got rid of their basket tills and put 6 more self scans instead. Their self scans are useless, badly designed and more to the point the ONE assistant that covers the 10 self scans looks at you with disgust, tuts at you if you have 'unexpected item...' or needing approval. I regularly use the self scans at the other Big 3 and don't have any problems with them.

Result? Longer queues at the manned checkouts. I don't buy much at Morrisons and the queues take the p*ss (even longer than Aldi).

will if this is their 'price war', I think they might as well already admit defeat; had a wander today, unimpressed with alleged price reductions
in my opinion, Morissons lost the plot when they took over Safeway, up until then they were distinctively different to the other supermarkets, and for me it was worth a 15 mile drive to go there; now it is just another 'homogenised' supermarket, with the usual smoke and mirror offers, for example their instant mash used to be 3 for £1, then it went to 2 for a £1, in a noticeably smaller pack (usual con - price increase and smaller pack !), now it's 3 for £1.20
looked today and the exact same toothpaste in £1 in poundland, £1.29 in Morries, shampoo exact same one £2.29 in Morries, guess how much it is in poundland?
looks to me like another PR con, back to Lidl and Aldi for me, and least their pricing is transparent, and there really is no noticeable difference in quality, but there sure is in price!!!

It's not just about price, they also need to sort out their staff and their checkouts. Tesco and Morrisons have some of the rudest staff going. Morrisons always has queues at the checkouts and the clunkiest self service tills. While my local Sainsburys had a refit, took out most of the manned checkouts and replaced them with self service. I have no problem with using the self service if I'm only buying a few items but refuse to do so with a trolleyful so they no longer get my custom.

This is probably a store by store thing (or, just maybe, regional). Where I live, Morrison's staff seem fine - less grumpy than those at the local Tesco. But if smiling, talkative staff is what you're after (and you don't mind being skinned alive by their prices) Sainsbury's is the place to go. It's all a little Stepford Wives, though - you get the feeling they are doing it by rote and that the smiles are held-on with superglue.

Know of people that work in Sainsburys and the mystery shopping report marks down if the colleagues the mystery shopper interacts with do not smile! Have three interactions - shop floor, a counter and checkouts. If the report comes back with a comment saying colleague did not smile - someone gets printing posters with remember to SMILE with an image of a smile plastered all over the colleague areas!

One friend feels some customers only should receive a smile on the news they have died! Some customers are so horrible, smelly and miserable
