Great news!
It sounds like he is desperate for affection but just scared about giving it. He needs to give a little then see what the response it. You don't know if his previous owners would pet him and then abuse him.
It's been a very short time since you've had him but he sounds like he is making great progress :TENFP - AssertiveOfficially in a clique of idiotsSmoke me a kipper; I'll be back for breakfast0 -
Yay :-)
Actually Rusty asked about his background - he was rescued from a house with 30 other animals (no other cats), owned by a man who'd previously been banned from keeping animals...0 -
:T Hooray! Now that he knows you're there for affection as well as food it will be onwards and upwards.0

I think I read that when cats rub against things they are planting their scent there. So he now owns you and eveything around you0

The sides of his face are where the all important scent glands are, so rubbing his face on you is a great sign
he owns you now!

Aww your cat is lovely! We have 2 cats here (Mia & Jasper). We got them separately and they get on great and love to groom each other.
Both of them love chewy sticks (you can buy them in supermarkets) they are called Webbox or something like that. They know which cupboard they're kept in and are there when you open the cupboard door and the sticks are downed in seconds!Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
He is gorgeous! What a breakthrough. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
