They are guides only, and of course the companies are going to encourage you to feed in large numbers....
Lily has once sachet of meat in the morning and one small cat bowl of biscuits in the evening (which she then grazes on the next day, I top up if need be but that's rarely). She is a 5kg large build cat and is very satisfied with what she gets.
All cats are different, use Derek as your guide within reason not the cat food manufacturer0 -
Loving the derek updates also.
Our cat Salem is a greedy devil. He gets a bowl full in the morning and a bowl full in the evening. About 2/3 of a tin a day , its a lot cheaper to get cans. Yet whenever we have food he comes after it as if we starve him.
When we took him to the vets to get neutered and he was weighed they said he was slightly over the average weight but he is a long cat apparently so it's OK. I am shocked he didn't weigh more how greedy he is.INACTIVE ACCOUNT0 -
You could try the miaow method - I have what I call miaow chats with my boy & if I get the tone right he comes over and rubs hinself against me. He also washes me on my hands/arms & loves a tummy rub, But you have to have a very trusting cat to be able to do that as they will defend it with back paws pushing, front paws holding & teeth biting. My boy sometimes gets in position, but I just tell him to relax & I keep still & he does just that. Then more rubbing.0

I too have miaow conversations with my cats. My neighbour thinks I'm nuts!ENFP - AssertiveOfficially in a clique of idiotsSmoke me a kipper; I'll be back for breakfast0 -
Is that not normal then? I'm always miaowing at my cat, and he answers0

I gently miaowed at him last night when he came in to eat the tuna. From his reaction you'd think I'd shot him in the !!!! with a BB gun.0

I talk to my cat - and she answers (in miaow)! Loving the thread, by the way. Derek is georgeous!0
